10 Landscaping Companies in Tacoma, Washington
Compare 10 Tacoma landscaping companies and learn what to ask about drainage, moss, soil, maintenance, and outdoor projects
September 26, 2026
By Valeria Navarro

Tacoma homeowners can compare ten local landscaping companies for lawn care, landscape design, installation, maintenance, tree work, and commercial properties. Hiring one usually starts with a site visit, a written scope, drainage and soil discussion, and a clear maintenance plan. Ask about licensing, insurance, scheduling, materials, and weather-related delays before work begins.
Tacoma homeowners should choose a landscaper who understands wet winters, dry summers, compacted soil, and the drainage problems that come with the South Sound. Moss, shade, standing water, sloped yards, and lawns worn thin by rain are common here.
Hiring a landscaper in Tacoma means more than picking plants from a catalog. A good plan accounts for clay or glacial soils, runoff, tree roots, winter saturation, and the summer watering bill before anyone brings in a wheelbarrow.
The right company may handle design, planting, lawn care, hardscaping, irrigation, or commercial maintenance. Read the scope closely. A pretty patio that sends rain toward the foundation is not a success, no matter how cute the pavers look.
Who are the best landscaping companies in Tacoma?
Ordered by Google rating weighted against the number of ratings, so a long record of good work outranks a handful of perfect scores. This is a ranking of public feedback, not an endorsement.

They came out while I was not home and did a great job with the backyard! The sides of my home and the back were neglected and collecting years worth of weeds and trash. Royal landscaping cleaned everything out and made it look brand new again. I can finally start from scratch to hopefully get this backyard looking amazing. Thanks Royal landscaping!

Edward did a great job removing my blackberry bushes and cleaned up the area nice. Very happy with his work.!

I had a fantastic experience with Edward and the Royal Landscaping team. He was prompt and thorough during our assessment and got right back to me with a detailed quote. We went back and forth adding and subtracting a few things and he was super professional and answered all my questions. The services he and the team provided were amazing. Our yard is transformed. We asked for a few specific plants to fill in some gaps and he added a few suggested plants as well. They all work together and are low maintenance like we need. 10/10 would recommend. We'll definitely be a repeat customer.

What customers say:
Had Brian and Dylan spend two days working in my yard. They trimmed a huge hedge, put in new soil, and laid fresh bark down. My flower beds slope so not an easy job. They were both polite and pleasant. Hard workers too. Cleaned up all left over debris before they left. I also use Urban Roots for weekly mowing. Another crew of guys of the same caliber. Thank you Urban Roots for hiring such superb employees. Sharon Freeland

Meh.... the sales guy who came out for my original evaluation talked to a big game and sold me on the quality of the service, and telling me how they trained all their people to go above and beyond looking for a little things to improve or recommend to homeowners, etc. But I've had two lawnmowing services, and neither lived up to expectations. The first one was particularly egregious. Areas of the yard skipped, half the lawn mowed really really low, and then they stopped halfway through the path and continued cutting at a different height… It was really Janky looking. Had another service yesterday, it was better, but my main walkway was missed, and the grass was cut so fast, that there are still a tall dandelions sticking up here and there throughout the yard. They came back out and fixed it the first time after I emailed, but I'm not bothering to email a second time, and I don't want to have to manage reviewing and having the work redone every single time. Other companies charge the same price and do a better job, so I've canceled my biweekly lawn care service.

2nd project with Urban Roots and zero complaints. Fresh soil in the garden, new beauty bark all around and rebuilt the rock trim around the house. Paul and Edgar worked hard, cleaned up like they were never there and communicated everything wonderfully.

What customers say:
We couldn’t be happier with the work that Archterra did on our backyard patio. From start to finish, the communication, craftsmanship, and attention to detail were incredible. Rob was fantastic to work with throughout the entire process. He immediately understood the vision we had for the space, but also brought so many thoughtful ideas and recommendations that made the final result even better than what we originally imagined ourselves. His communication was outstanding every step of the way — responsive, transparent, and genuinely collaborative. The craftsmanship and work ethic on site with Max and Marco were just as impressive. Every day we came home from work amazed at how much progress had been made. Friends we showed photos to along the way thought there must have been a much larger crew working at our house because of how quickly and beautifully everything came together. We’ve dreamed about having this patio ever since we bought our house, and I’m SO happy we trusted the project to Archterra. The space feels beautiful, modern, and incredibly well built. We would recommend Archterra without hesitation.
Erica Peterson, 4 months ago
You cannot go wrong with Archterra. We had an extremely large project and I wanted to pick the right firm to do the job who would do it right. While price is a consideration, you have to remember you get what you pay for! Archterra starts with the foundation of your project, building the correct infrastructure will make everything beautiful for a lifetime. They came out and worked with me on a design and then worked closely with me throughout the whole project. If I had questions they were always extremely responsive and helpful. Their crews are the hardest working bunch of people I have ever seen! If I had design changes, it wasn’t a problem, we would meet and discuss and figure out next steps. This is an extremely professional and caring company, not just for their clients but for their crews. Our project included full fence replacement, full patio replacement, addition of a pathway all with lighting. Replaced all sod for turf and a redesigned front yard with a stunning water and light feature!!!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ | Above & Beyond! Archterra has been incredible to work with! We approached their team with a big vision for our property, and they’ve made the entire landscape design process exciting, approachable & incredibly well thought out. The first phase included a full landscape clean-up, tree trimming & maintenance, and in just one day they transformed our yard into something that genuinely looks magazine-quality! Their team is patient, knowledgeable, professional & incredibly attentive in their recommendations. I’ve always believed great landscaping is one of the most impactful investments you can make in a property. Lush, well-designed outdoor spaces enhance a home’s curb appeal, create an immediate sense of place & can add meaningful value, shaping not only a buyer’s first impression, but how we experience our homes every day & how they’re enjoyed by family, friends & guests. Archterra is also a company you see actively involved in the community, and their trucks are always out and about serving our local neighborhoods. The experience extends well beyond the work in the yard. Their office team is incredible! They’re responsive, kind & knowledgeable, with great communication that keeps us informed throughout the entire process. We’re excited to continue bringing the full landscape design to life with Archterra!! We’ve recommended their team to friends, neighbors & clients throughout Lake Tapps, Bonney Lake, Puyallup & Pierce County, and their knowledge, attention to detail & quality of work are exactly why. A genuine pleasure to work with - Highly recommend!!

What customers say:
I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel it’s important to share my experience with Father Nature Landscaping. I hired the company in July 2025 for what was supposed to be a relatively small landscaping project. My primary goals were very clear from the beginning: I wanted year-round privacy from my neighbor using evergreen plants and trees, and I wanted a clean, simple landscape that would require minimal maintenance. The first design completely missed the mark—it included deciduous trees that lose their leaves and around 20 different varieties of plants, which was the opposite of what I had requested. After discussing my concerns again, I removed many of the plant varieties, simplified the plan, and we settled on a design using only a handful of plant types that I was happy with. Unfortunately, that’s where the problems began. The original estimate was based on the much larger, more complex planting plan that included 38 plants. When the installation crew arrived, there were only 17 plants for a project costing nearly ten thousand dollars. Never adjusting the cost. The privacy trees were spaced roughly 10 feet apart, making it impossible to achieve the privacy that had been the entire purpose of the project. When I expressed my concerns, I was simply told, “This is what we agreed on.” There was no effort to acknowledge that reducing the variety of plants should have resulted in a fuller planting using the remaining approved plants. After pushing the issue, the initial solution was to offer me two half-dead plants from behind their shop. Eventually, Chris agreed to order four additional privacy plants, but only after I continued to express my dissatisfaction. Even now, I don’t feel the project reflects what was discussed or what I expected for the price. The final disappointment has been the warranty service. One reason I felt comfortable moving forward was the one-year plant warranty. Recently, two lavender plants died. I contacted Chris politely and asked that they be replaced under warranty and that the drip irrigation be checked to make sure the plants weren’t failing because of an irrigation issue. The service experience was incredibly disappointing. A crew showed up without notifying me they were coming onto my property, removed the dead plants, admitted they didn’t know how to operate the irrigation system to inspect it, and then attempted to install a completely different variety of lavender. When I pointed out it was the wrong plant, they left. Chris later told me they would return, but when they came back the next day, they again entered my property without any notice, planted the same incorrect lavender, and left without speaking to me. When I contacted Chris afterward, his response was simply that it was the only lavender they could get. At no point was there an attempt to discuss alternative solutions, match the existing plants, or address my concern about whether the irrigation system may have contributed to the plants dying in the first place. Overall, I was disappointed by both the communication and the customer service after the sale. The project never fully achieved the goals that were clearly communicated from the beginning, and the warranty experience left me feeling like honoring the warranty meant installing whatever was easiest rather than replacing the plants with what was originally purchased. Based on my experience, I would not hire Father Nature Landscaping again.

Our experience with Chris, Isaibel, Michael, and the rest of their team was fantastic. The yard looks fantastic and the water feature came out beyond my highest expectations. The landscaping team was professional throughout the entire project, it was timely (actually earlier from what I had expected), and there were no hidden costs. Chris and Isaibel explained each step and each cost, and any last minute unexpected changes occurred, everything was discussed and approved by us at that time. We are moving into a maintenance contract with them. While not the cheapest option out there, I shudder to think of the shortcuts that would have been taken and the lack of input from us if we went with a cheaper contractor. Cost was definitely worth it.

Father Nature Landscaping has been incredible to work with. From Chris, who we first met during planning, to the project managers Michael and Isaibel, and Osvaldo the foreman, the entire team was outstanding. They paid close attention to every detail and made sure we were satisfied at each stage of the project. Once the work started, we made several changes to the original design. Instead of pushing back or making excuses, they adjusted quickly and made the changes exactly how we wanted them. Even better, everything stayed within our budget. We are extremely happy with the results and look forward to working with them again on the remaining landscaping for our yard. We highly recommend Father Nature Landscaping.

Nasim Landscaping has brought so much beauty back to our community! I am the community director of a property in Federal Way. Project Manager Frumencio Cruz helped me completely transform this community into a place where everyone is proud to call home again. They are on time, professional, and deliver exactly what they propose in their bids for services. Mr. Cruz is a problem solver and he found options to keep us running smoothly with lighting and irrigation. Our combined efforts have been noticed by police safety officers, the pest control specialists, and the whole community. Thank you so much Nasim Landscaping!

I would highly recommend Javier and his team for any of your lawn and yard care needs.

Absolutely the best tree service in University Place Washington. We noticed a leaning tree and called Javier. To our surprise, he was at our home earlier than scheduled to remove the leaming tree that was falling toward the window on the second floor. Javier was up in the tree in a matter of seconds, amazing as well as entertaining. We are so happy with the service and have already hired Javier and his wonderful team to take care of all of our tree pruning, removal if necessary, and full landscaping of our front and back yards! Thanks again, Javier and your wonderful team!
Sheron Y Lutz, a year ago
I would 100% have Javier and his team back to work on my trees. He was so responsive and came out right away to look at my project and schedule a date for the work. He listened to what I wanted and my concerns. He ended up doing even more than what we thought was possible and they did it quickly and even cleaned up my yard after to look better than before they got there. I compared prices with many tree service companies and Javier’s estimate was competitive so for the quality of work it’s hard to beat. I am so grateful to be able to enjoy my yard again thanks to Javier!

Luis and Francisco do great work. They complement each other skills. They worked doggedly to solve an issue in one of the zones in my in ground sprinkler system that was not working. My 30+ sprinkler system is now working better than ever. They determined where the non working zone was located. They did so without digging up and destroying my landscaping. And where they had to dig was left in better condition. They located all the zones which are now marked. They also installed a new timer. Luis and team are now my go to for all sprinkler needs. I recommend them highly.

How do you choose a landscaper in Tacoma?
Start with the yard problem, not the company slogan. Is water pooling beside the house? Is moss taking over the lawn? Do you need a planting plan, a retaining wall, regular mowing, or a full outdoor renovation? Different crews may be better suited to different work.
Ask for an on-site assessment and a written scope. Tacoma properties can change dramatically from one block to the next, especially with shade, slope, mature trees, and compacted fill. The proposal should explain grading, drainage, soil amendments, plant sizes, materials, cleanup, and what happens if heavy rain delays the schedule.
Compare these details before signing:
| What to compare | Why it matters in Tacoma |
|---|---|
| Services offered | Design, installation, lawn care, irrigation, tree work, and commercial maintenance require different equipment and experience. |
| Drainage approach | Wet winters can expose poor grading, clogged drains, and compacted soil. Ask how runoff will move away from structures. |
| Maintenance scope | Clarify mowing, pruning, moss control, weeding, seasonal cleanup, irrigation checks, and plant replacement. |
| Written estimate | A detailed scope helps separate labor, materials, disposal, permits, and possible extra work. |
| Insurance and licensing | Confirm that the company carries appropriate coverage and meets Washington requirements for the work being proposed. |
| Plant selection | Favor plants suited to Tacoma's shade, winter rain, summer dryness, and the specific soil on your property. |
| Communication | Establish who handles questions, weather delays, change orders, and follow-up after installation. |
Look at recent work that resembles your property. A flat sunny lot is not the same as a narrow, mossy yard under Douglas firs. Ask how the crew protects roots, fences, siding, and existing drainage during construction.
Get more than one estimate for large projects, but do not choose by price alone. The cheapest bid may leave out soil removal, drainage work, disposal, or finishing details that appear later as a surprise bill. A clear plan is worth more than a polished promise.
Frequently asked questions
How much does landscaping cost in Tacoma?
The price depends on the project. Routine lawn care, planting, drainage repairs, patios, retaining walls, and full landscape renovations involve different labor, materials, equipment, and permitting needs. Request a written estimate that separates the scope, materials, disposal, and ongoing maintenance.
What plants grow well in Tacoma yards?
Plants suited to Tacoma often tolerate cool, wet winters and relatively dry summers. The best choices depend on sun, shade, soil, drainage, and deer pressure. A local landscaper can recommend plants for your exact conditions instead of treating every yard like the same garden.
How can I fix standing water in my Tacoma yard?
Start by identifying whether the problem comes from grading, compacted soil, roof runoff, clogged drains, or a high-water area. A landscaper may recommend regrading, amended soil, a rain garden, drainage piping, or another solution. Do not direct runoff toward a foundation or a neighbor's property.
Do Tacoma landscapers provide regular lawn and yard maintenance?
Some do, but services vary. Ask whether the plan includes mowing, edging, pruning, weeding, moss control, seasonal cleanup, irrigation checks, and debris removal. Commercial maintenance companies may not take on the same residential work as a garden installation crew.
Business details, ratings and reviews are sourced from Google. Reviews are reproduced verbatim and are the opinions of their authors, not of Dream Landscaper.
Company details were last checked on 2026-09-26.
Take your time, ask good questions, and let Tacoma's rain teach the plan before the first shovel hits the soil.
