Homeowners in Seattle should call a local landscaping company that understands the region’s wet winters, clay soils, and drainage needs. Hiring a pro means more than mowing; it covers everything from yard cleanups to patios, retaining walls, and plant health, with the right crew making sure your investment lasts through the seasons.

Seattle yards are a mix of moss, fir needles and that patch of grass that never quite dries out. The climate is wet and mild, but the soil is often heavy clay or glacial till, so drainage and moss control are real work. Most homeowners need more than a mower; you need someone who knows how to handle blackberries, sloped lots, and a lawn that turns to mud by February.

Hiring a landscaper here is about more than looks. It is about keeping water away from your foundation, picking plants that do not rot in the shade, and making sure whatever you build will not move after one wet winter. The best crews work with the land you have, not against it.

Who are the best landscaping companies in Seattle?

Ordered by Google rating weighted against the number of ratings, so a long record of good work outranks a handful of perfect scores. This is a ranking of public feedback, not an endorsement.

1. Lee's General Landscaping and Yard Clean Up

4.8 stars from 218 Google reviews.

Lee's General Landscaping and Yard Clean Up has more than 30 years of experience helping Seattle homeowners, property managers, and businesses restore and maintain their outdoor spaces. They handle overgrown yard cleanup, landscape restoration, weed and invasive plant removal, shrub trimming, mulch installation, and low-maintenance solutions. Their services include everything from blackberry and ivy removal to paver patios, retaining walls, and seasonal maintenance, with a focus on clear communication and thorough cleanup.

What customers say:

I had Lee’s remove my existing grass and 4 overgrown bushes and replace them with a river rock/mulch yard with various plants. I also had a new gate built. The result was exactly what I was wanting and the price was fair. The crew was exceptionally nice and wanted to make sure I was happy with their work. One of them saw I was trying to walk with a broken foot and held out his arm for me. I would highly recommend Lee’s and I will definitely use them again for any future landscaping needs.

Flagstone sidepath installed with 1/2 inch max gaps. Excellent stone cutting and placement work. Martin was our first contact and provided the estimate- very personable and knowledgeable. Eddy (and his brother Emilio) were the stone cutting and placement experts. The results were excellent and admired by all neighbors. Only hiccup was that the had underestimated the time it would take to do the precise cutting and placement. Was worth paying the extra amount they charged for this. I would highly recommend them.

Nelson and Brandon moved 7 yards of play chips up 40 vertical feet to my isolated yard. What a nice job! They followed directions really well and mulched all the areas I asked for plus a few more. Too bad I didn't do this sooner. It looks so pretty!

Baxter gave us a fair price and great service for thatching, aerating, top soil and seed for our lawn that was damaged by grubs and excessive thatch. All completed in one day! Lawn came back great in 6-7 weeks. Highly recommend his company!

Katie Hof, 4 weeks ago

Bp Greenworks did an amazing job freshening up our yard! It required serious pruning, replacing sod, adding metal trim to define areas, general weeding and mulching. They went above and beyond replacing some rotting stair supports too! It feels soo much better - we are happy and the plants are happy! Thanks BPG!

What customers say:

We first hired Ramos Landscaping last year to get our yards ready for winter, and they exceeded every expectation. The crew worked hard, did not cut any corners, and treated our outdoor space with the kind of respect that's harder to find than it should be. Pricing was fair and transparent — no surprises. We hope to work with Ramos Landscaping for many years to come, and will continue to recommend them to all our neighbors in Ballard.

Iavor Ivanov, 4 months ago

Ramos Landscaping Services certainly delivered what they promised! The yard was overgrown and the blackberry plants were well on their way to taking over the whole yard. Samuel and Roberto didn’t just do what was easy and chop them down. They yanked the blackberry growth by the root to keep them from growing back. All the growth on the fence that had been creeping into the neighbors’ yards were cleared. They also cleaned the driveway and extensive concrete walkway of decades of accumulated weeds, dirt, and mud. The yard was edged, grass was cut, and the hedges were trimmed. They hauled all the yard waste away after they were finished. Samuel is an excellent listener and he delivered on all of our requests and more. Ramos Landscaping Services beautified our yard after decades of neglect and now we love looking out the window into our yard! Ramos Landscaping Services is highly recommended!

Ramos Landscaping did an amazing job restoring our backyard. We had more weeds than we could keep up with, including in my trellis tunnel. My garden has a clean slate and a thick layer of mulch for spring! I thought their prices were reasonable for the amount of work and materials required. 10/10 would recommend their services.

Carlos and his team are incredible!!! North East Landscaping took the worse looking sloped backyard and turned it into the backyard we asked for. We also had fencing and work done to our front yard. Of course we were just as pleased. His company and team are very respectful, friendly and professional; they listen and deliver to their customers needs and wants. There was NOT one time, after a hard days work, when the team left a mess. Their communication is impeccable. I can't praise Carlos and his team enough. We are extremely happy our paths crossed. Todd was excellent to work with. He quickly identified the issues with my older irrigation system and its compatibility with my Rachio controller, replaced the faulty valve, adjusted the sprinkler coverage to make sure every area of the lawn was being watered properly, and gave me several practical suggestions for future maintenance. What I appreciated most was his professionalism and attention to detail. He even used part of his weekend to make sure everything was completed promptly instead of pushing it back. It’s rare to find someone who is this knowledgeable, responsible, and committed to doing the job right. I highly recommend Todd and Seattle Sustainable Landscapes.

I was watching the company's work at my neighbor's house, and they did an excellent job—fast, organized, and clean. I asked for their names—Angel and Brandon—and both of them are very friendly. It really was a great job—very clean and tidy. I hope to be able to use their services soon, specifically with these two guys, Angel and Brandon; they were very friendly and attentive. Great work. ❤️

John Carroll, 4 months ago

Best in the business! We just moved into our first home in a wonderful neighborhood. Unfortunately our yard looked like garbage compared to everyone else’s. It was full of weeds, crab grass, and holes from the last owners dog. Arvinder and his crew at economy landscaping absolutely transformed it. They quickly and professionally removed the old dead yard, replaced and graded the soil, installed an automatic sprinkler system, placed fresh sod AND did a great 6 foot cedar fence. All in about a week and a half. The attention to detail was astounding and we felt like we were in great hands the whole time. I would recommend them for any job and will be going back to them for everything we do in the future. Thanks guys!!

How do you choose a landscaper in Seattle?

Seattle’s climate means you want a landscaper who understands wet winters, soggy lawns, and the difference between a patch of moss and a drainage problem. Ask about their experience with clay soils, retaining walls, and which plants actually survive under fir trees. Good communication, clear pricing, and a real maintenance plan matter more than a flashy design.

What to Ask Why It Matters
Drainage Experience Prevents water pooling, foundation issues
Plant Knowledge Right plants survive, wrong ones rot
Retaining Wall Skills Seattle’s slopes need real support
Maintenance Plans Keeps your yard looking good year-round
Local References Shows they know Seattle yards

Frequently asked questions

What landscaping challenges are common in Seattle?

Seattle homeowners often deal with moss, heavy clay soils, drainage issues, and invasive plants like blackberry and ivy. Sloped lots can also require retaining walls to prevent erosion and create usable space.

When is the best time to plant in Seattle?

Early fall and spring are the best times to plant in Seattle. Cooler temperatures and regular rain help new plants establish strong roots before the dry summer or cold winter.

How do I prevent moss from taking over my lawn?

Improve drainage, increase sunlight by pruning trees, and aerate your lawn regularly. Moss thrives in wet, shady, compacted soil, so addressing those conditions helps keep it in check.

Do I need a permit for landscaping projects in Seattle?

Some projects, like building retaining walls over four feet or major grading, may require permits in Seattle. Check with the city or ask your landscaper to help determine what’s needed for your specific job.
