Santa Clarita homeowners should compare landscapers by irrigation skill, drought-wise planting, drainage, tree care, and hardscape experience. Hiring usually means a site visit, written scope, plant and material selections, irrigation planning, permits when needed, and a maintenance plan. Get at least three detailed estimates before breaking ground.

A Santa Clarita landscaper needs to understand hot, dry summers, Santa Ana winds, water restrictions, and yards that can shift from dusty to runoff-prone after a winter storm. Many properties also have compacted soil, clay pockets, slopes, and mature trees competing for every drop of water.

Start with irrigation and grading before you fall in love with the plant list. A beautiful yard still fails if water pools near the house, runs down a slope, or depends on a sprinkler system that August can outpace.

Ask how the crew handles fire-conscious planting, pruning, drainage, soil preparation, and low-water maintenance. Out here, the first summer is the honest one.

Who are the best landscaping companies in Santa Clarita?

Ordered by Google rating weighted against the number of ratings, so a long record of good work outranks a handful of perfect scores. This is a ranking of public feedback, not an endorsement.

1. Erik's Tree Service & Brush Clearance

5.0 stars from 100 Google reviews.

What customers say:

Erik gave me a fair and reasonable quote. Him and his crew arrived on time the next day. Crew got to work right away and worked hard. They finished earlier than expected and cleaned up once’s done. They made sure I was happy with work before leaving. Highly recommend. Will definitely use again in the future.

Jeanette Johnson, a month ago

I reached out to Erik because tree branches were getting dangerously close to the main power line to my home. He was incredibly responsive, helpful, and able to fit me into his schedule right away, which I truly appreciated. His crew of three worked efficiently and professionally, and the value for the price was excellent considering the size of the tree and the amount of work involved. They did a great job shaping and trimming everything so the tree not only became safe, but also looked clean and well-maintained. What stood out most was their attention to detail and flexibility—they were very accommodating when I pointed out a few additional branches I wanted addressed, and handled everything without hesitation. They also left the area spotless after the job was done, which says a lot about their level of care and professionalism. I would absolutely recommend Erik and his team to anyone looking for quality tree service.

Adina DiGirolamo, 5 months ago

I recently had four large pine trees trimmed at my home in Valencia, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. Erik's pricing is fair and very reasonable. What really stood out, though, wasn’t just the price—it was the quality of the work. Erik was extremely attentive, listened carefully to what I wanted, and made sure everything was done just right. The trees look fantastic—clean, balanced, and professionally done. It’s rare to find someone who delivers both excellent service and fair pricing, but Erik definitely does. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for top-notch tree trimming. I understand why he has recieved so many Five stars!

2. Green Landscape Nursery

4.7 stars from 96 Google reviews.

Green Landscape Nursery operates five locations throughout the Santa Clarita Valley, including a four-acre garden center on Cinema Drive. The nursery presents itself as a large, knowledgeable source for local garden and landscape plants.

What customers say:

I am extremely disappointed with my experience here. We spent thousands of dollars with this business and specifically showed them the exact size of our planters so they could guide our purchase. Instead, they significantly oversold us. When we realized we had been given far too many extra items and tried to return the unused products less than 10 days later, they completely refused. To make matters worse, the quality of the plants themselves was very poor. We have a lot more purchasing to do for our project, but we will absolutely not be giving them any more of our business.

This place is absolutely amazing, I don't think I will ever buy plants from home depot or Lowe's again. I talked to Patrick on the phone and he told me to take some pictures of my backyard and he would help me find whatever will suit my needs. I came in and was blown away by how many super healthy trees and flowers and succulents they have. He was super knowledgeable about what will work well in our area, what will grow well on my slope, and all the different tastes and types of the fruits they have. I ended up getting three 5gallon fruit trees, some planting soil, some fertilizer, and my new place to shop for landscaping. They do have recommendations for gardeners, installation, and landscaping as well. Before spending any money somewhere else go give them a shot you will be pleasantly suprised.

4. Allstate Landscape Services

4.7 stars from 28 Google reviews.

What customers say:

Our backyard is the most amazing place to see a 10x 30-foot putting green, four flags, plus stepping stones. The putting green is unbelievable, with subtle slope changes. Every place I putt is a different break and a different speed. The staff were on time every day and did a fantastic and professional job. I have been saving for a while to get the best, and I think I spent my money wisely.

Jim Aston, 3 months ago

Allstate Landscape did a great job in our front yard. They pulled out the old grass, installed turf, and replaced the dirt/mulch areas with rock. They were not the cheapest quote, but they weren't the most expensive either. What sold me was where all the other companies expected me to tell them exactly what I wanted and offered no ideas, Jay was able to advise me as to what are the best ideas from his decades of experience. The crew was friendly, and they all responded quickly about concerns and questions I had. All my neighbors have had nothing but complements about how it looks, and I now wish I had done this years ago!

Callaway Cass, 4 months ago

Allstate Landscape Services did an excellent job on our front and backyards lawn areas installing Southwest Greens artificial turf through Costco. Even though our areas were small, they did a meticulous job in preparing the soil and installing new and resetting the existing bender board perimeters. The crew was very professional and did not disturb existing planting areas. I am very pleased with the results and highly recommend their services. It definitely has a natural appearance and easy to maintain. Thank you Courtney Goldberg for coordinating the installation.

Alex & his crew from Dramatic Landscaping have been absolutely incredible! My parent's front yard needed to be simplified, cleaned up, cleared out, and landscaped. Alex listened to the tough situation I was in. He made his recommendations to make it a safe, bright, and easy to maintain space for my parents. Alex and his crew had the vision, patience, and manpower to get it done efficiently. He also fixed a backyard wall for me and dealt with the headache of the permit process to the end. I am thankful for his help, support, and great communication throughout the project. Excellent Job!

Sanchez Landscape installed over 1,000 sq/ft of synthetic grass, about 35 boxwood shrubs around the border, replaced old overgrown plants and flowers, converted sprinklers to drip system and added low voltage lighting. From the first time Hector came to my house I got a good, honest vibe from him. He provided an estimate a few days later and it was reasonable given the work being done. He started the job right on time and finished a day or two earlier than estimated. His crew was always on time, polite, respectful and cleaned up thoroughly each day. Communication was excellent All around with any questions or approvals that were needed. I would highly recommend Sanchez Landscape for any grass, turf, irrigation or landscaping needs.

Jason Hoffer, 4 years ago

Before SJR landscaping, our yard was a mess. Our old lawn had died and most of our plants were dead. SJR recommended plants that work for our zone in Santa Clarita and did all the planting and seeding in a short amount of time for a great price. We have a huge yard but they made landscaping affordable. Thanks for all your hard work! Update as of 08/24/25. Lawn grew in with weeds. Tried to call and email. Got no response or follow up from SJR. Once they are paid, they never respond when help is needed.

8. Stay Green Inc.

3.6 stars from 36 Google reviews.

Stay Green Inc.’s supplied About text is a security notice explaining that website activity may trigger an online protection system. It does not provide information about the company’s landscaping services.

What customers say:

I wish that I could have posted before and after pictures of what the property looked like under the direction of StayGreen and how it looks now. I'm an HOA Board member for the past few years. Stay green came to meeting with fancy pens and pages of proposed work as well as a free drip irrigation system. For 2 years the did nothing but blow debris around the complex and trimmed bushes as if they were blind. The drip system never worked properly and what little vegitation we did have was killed from lack if water. They never picked up a piece of paper if it was lying on the ground. We found their trash tucked hidden away in our trashcan cubbies. I'm not sure that some if the workers even knew what they were doing. We had a sprinkler system for the huge grass area. It was always flooding. When we reported it, they said that they fixed it. I have the actual photos of the Mickey mouse, sub-par job they did. While under contract with us, they never tended to the free irrigation system and the sprinklers that did work only watered the cement and wooden fences. We complained numerous times. These people also had the nerve to take naps on our grassy areas. I guess they count on the premise that no one will notice their unprofessional business practices. I wouldn't recommend them to maintain a cat box!

Juli Peller, 5 years ago

Thank you Stay Green for trimming the bottom of my plants. My dog was bitten by a rattlesnake. When you ask kindly you get results. It only took them 10 minutes of there time. Great customer service. Thanks again.

Jamie Alamillo, a year ago

Not only do they do a great job, but they sponsor & donate to so many great causes in the surrounding communities. I see their trucks & employees all around town & we are very happy with our service. If you need a commercial maintenance company or someone to do tree work or even brush clearance, I would recommend them!

How do you choose a landscaper in Santa Clarita?

A good Santa Clarita landscaping company should be able to explain the work in plain language, measure the site, and separate essential repairs from decorative upgrades. Ask for a written scope that identifies grading, irrigation zones, plant sizes, materials, cleanup, warranties, and ongoing maintenance.

Look closely at how the estimate handles water. Drip irrigation, pressure regulation, smart scheduling, and separate zones for trees, shrubs, and turf can save a yard from the usual cycle of overwatering one corner while another turns to toast.

For sloped properties, ask who is responsible for drainage and erosion control. A landscaper who only discusses plants has not finished the conversation. Santa Clarita yards can look level until the first serious rain finds the low spot.

Check tree work separately from general gardening. Ask about pruning timing, removal permits if applicable, stump handling, clearance from structures, and protection for existing trees. Then compare the estimates using the same scope, because the cheapest proposal often leaves out the part that later becomes expensive.

Project need Questions to ask Details to compare
Landscape design Is a scaled plan included? Plant list, layout, revisions, drainage notes
Irrigation Will the system be tested and zoned? Drip lines, valves, controller, pressure, warranty
Hardscape How will the base and drainage be prepared? Excavation depth, base material, finish, expansion joints
Tree and brush work Who handles pruning, hauling, and permits? Scope, safety plan, cleanup, disposal
Maintenance What happens after installation? Visit frequency, seasonal pruning, irrigation checks

Before signing, confirm insurance, payment stages, change-order rules, and the person who will answer questions after installation. Get the final plant palette and irrigation map in writing. Paperwork is cheaper than redoing a patio.

Frequently asked questions

How much does landscaping cost in Santa Clarita?

The price depends on the yard size, grading, irrigation repairs, plant material, hardscape, access, and maintenance needs. Ask for a written estimate that separates demolition, soil work, irrigation, planting, drainage, and construction so you can compare proposals fairly.

What are the best low-water plants for Santa Clarita yards?

Good choices often include California native shrubs, sages, manzanita, ceanothus, rosemary, lavender, succulents, and drought-tolerant ornamental grasses. The right plant still depends on sun, slope, soil drainage, deer pressure, and available irrigation.

Do I need irrigation for a drought-tolerant landscape?

Usually, yes, especially during establishment. New plants commonly need temporary or low-volume irrigation for the first one to two growing seasons, followed by less frequent deep watering once roots are established.

When should trees be pruned in Santa Clarita?

Timing depends on the species, but avoid unnecessary pruning during extreme heat and ask a qualified tree professional about local disease and wildfire concerns. Remove dead or hazardous wood promptly, while larger structural pruning should be planned around the tree’s growth cycle.
