Top 10 Landscaping Companies in Rochester, New York
Compare 10 Rochester landscaping companies for lawn care, trees, garden design, grading, snow removal and seasonal yard work
October 3, 2026
By Valeria Navarro

Rochester homeowners can choose from garden centers, lawn care providers, tree service companies, landscape contractors and snow plow services. Hiring one usually starts with a property visit, a clear scope of work and a written estimate. Ask about drainage, spring cleanup, winter service, plant care, insurance and who handles permits if needed.
Rochester homeowners should hire a landscaper who understands lake effect snow, wet springs, clay soil and short growing seasons. The right crew can help with lawn care, grading, tree work, planting, garden design and snow removal without guessing at what your yard needs.
Rochester soil can stay soggy in spring, then dry hard in summer. Heavy snow can bend shrubs, damage branches and leave compacted turf behind. Add shade from mature trees, deer browsing and freeze-thaw cycles, and a pretty yard needs a practical plan, not just a fresh layer of mulch.
Start with the work itself. A garden center may help you choose plants and supplies, while a contractor may handle grading, trees or installation. For snow and lawn service, ask how often the property is visited and what happens after a heavy storm. That little conversation can save you a very large headache by February.

We so enjoy our visits at The Garden Factory. From the cashiers, yard staff, pick-up lot and delivery drivers. We have dealt with numerous employees, both at the site as well as delivery workers. Mike B. has been an absolute pleasure every time myself or our family members have him deliver product. Yes, we do request him. Outstanding customer service all the time! Thanks Mike.

I placed an order online for delivery, it took my card info, it accepted a delivery address and sent me an invoice with the delivery address. 2 weeks later no package. I called to find out where the package is ànd was routed to a manager who rudely told me that they don't do online deliveries. I informed her that it offers it online and she rudely said" no it doesnt" and hung up on me. I guess I must be stupid and blind. Thank you Manager for pointing that out to me.

When a massive tree fell onto our home, it instantly became one of the most stressful and overwhelming days our family has ever experienced. Cook Outdoor Contracting was on site incredibly quickly and immediately brought a sense of calm and professionalism to a chaotic situation. Their team was responsive, knowledgeable, meticulous, and clearly experienced in handling complex emergency work. They took the time to explain what needed to happen, worked safely and efficiently, and treated our home with care and respect throughout the process. While nothing can make a situation like this easy, Cook made it significantly easier to navigate. Knowing we had a team we could trust handling such a critical part of the recovery was invaluable. We are deeply grateful for their quick response, outstanding work, and compassion during a difficult time. I would recommend Cook Outdoor Contracting without hesitation.

These guys are awesome! Holiday weekend, tree dropped in our driveway, called Ben early, crew was here mid morning and made quick work of it. Terrific crew, polite, professional, great communication, completely transparent, cleaned up before they left. Very happy to recommend Cook Outdoor.
Douglas Parker, 3 months ago
These guys were excellent and had the best price of three major tree services I had quoted. They were careful and punctual and man did they clean up beautifully. Stump grinding was well done. They cleared 30 trees for me and stacked the wood in nice piles because I use the wood to heat my house. I would highly recommend. I am gonna use them again in the future because they do more than just cut trees.

Ever since using trimline for our very sick lawn it truly has never looked so good!! The kids love laying in the yard because it’s so soft and healthy. We by far have one of the nicest looking lawns in the neighborhood. Each and every single technician that comes out to service the yard has been super kind and professional. We encountered Devon today for service and his kindness and willingness to answer any questions was beyond exceptional service. This company is very lucky to have him as an employee! Thank you trimline for saving our yard!!

After unexpectedly losing my Dad who prided himself with his excellent lawn care, we quickly got a mediocre lawn service. It was not until we were able to get Trimline Landscaping Service that the quality of our lawn care greatly improved to the quality my mom missed. We are grateful for the hard work, care and kind customer service.
Deborah Nelson, 3 weeks ago
Ever since Trimline restored our very sick lawn we have had the best looking G yard in neighborhood. We use all the services on ongoing basis. Great results. A can’t destroyed part of my fence and garden. I called Trimline and they did a great job restoring both

Lots of plants for gardening. I came here on Saturday and it was somewhat busy. Front parking lot was almost full. They also have a side parking lot, just a tiny bit farther. They have large variety of plants and tree for outdoor and some for indoor, and supplies for gardening. I won’t say they have the cheapest price but also not the highest compared to other nurseries. Staffs are friendly and always asks if I need help

A one stop garden centre for all your needs. From garden supplies, trees, houseplants, potting soil, vegetables, herbs, grasses, shrubs to bird seed and much much more. They have a huge range for beginners as well as green fingered experts. They literally have what your heart desires. We went in for plants and ended up purchasing a tree! The staff are wonderful. Always friendly and willing to help. There is ample parking.

They did an awesome job installing the landscaping around my pool. Nicole the designer was great to work with, patient with me while I was indecisive. Carlos and his team were hard workers in the exhausting heat. Ultimately I am very pleased and would highly recommend.

We are absolutely thrilled with our new concrete walkway and patio as well as the addition of our new landscape design! Scott was so cooperative and easy to work with - eager to make sure he finished with satisfied customers.
Anne Sabo, a year ago
We had a tear out of most of our front landscape and replaced with new shrubs/trees. Scott works hard to make his customers satisfied. Not to mention he himself physically is a very hard worker. His price was fair and reasonable. Thanks to Scott and Sean.

Very meticulous and easy to work with. Cleaned up everything. I highly recommend him and will be calling again.
Donna Fink, 3 months ago
Paul preformed an amazing job on various needed trees’ trimming, tree removal and stump grinding for us. He followed through with availability, easily responded via text, emails or phone calls when the need arouse, estimates were reasonable, communicated with a wealth of tree knowledge as evident by easily answering and explaining any questions and concerns we had and the work was done promptly as agreed to. Very recently a huge downed tree limb cracked open a large tree on a Saturday. I texted Paul thinking this is the weekend, hopefully I would hear from him Monday. Imagine my surprise and relief when Paul texted me with an estimate ( I’d texted pictures) and he could fit the job in on Monday! As arranged, the damaged tree and downed limb was removed with the entire area totally cleaned up by Monday afternoon. Obviously he takes alot of pride, professionalism and customer satisfaction in his work. We are making a “to-do-list” for future work with Paul.

What customers say:
This is my first year in our new house in Greece. The previous owner employed John, and John reached out to us to offer us a snow plowing contract. I emailed him with questions, and he responded promptly. Are we ever glad we signed the contract! The first thing he did this winter was come out well before the first snowfall and stake our driveway. This winter has been snowy, and John has come every time we have had snowfall, sometimes twice a day. He does a superb job of clearing our driveway, including pushing the snow to the side at the bottom of the driveway, so we have no problem exiting onto the street. He comes at all times of the day, so there is never a problem early in the morning when we have to leave for work. John is conscientious, thorough, and reliable. His contract was extremely affordable, especially for the service he has been giving us. I can't recommend John Schopf's Advantage Lawn Service Plus strongly enough.

I have been using Advantage Lawn Service Plus for two years and they are great! Extremely reliable, affordable and efficient. They are so easy to communicate with and allow for payment plans if necessary. I have not had to worry about my lawn care and I'm extremely grateful. I have recommended their services to a few of my friends as well! I will be continuing with their service for as long as I live in the area.
Jessica Childers, a year ago
John did an outstanding job! It was quite a challenge with all the snow and he didn't miss a beat. Many times he'd be out there clearing the driveway well before dawn! He also would come back and redo the driveway during the day as needed. We couldn't imagine using anyone else. Several neighbors on our street use John and I know they're very happy with his service too!

Bought topsoil from them at an insane premium price. 36 dollars more a yard than where I normally get it. Looks like they dug it up threw it in and let the rain hit it with no tarp for a week. Insane premium prices and terrible product. Won’t be returning.

Clover has done plantings, mulch and pavers for us. So far, we are very pleased

Marty is professional, reliable and does a great job! I really appreciate that he communicates well -- for example, what he'll do if it's raining, etc. You won't go wrong!
Susan D’Ettorre, 4 months ago
An ocean of happy tears!!! Due to health problems, it was becoming a struggle to mow. Marty, even though the season has already started, came to the rescue. I just wanted the lawn to look respectable, and not to have the most embarrassing yard in the neighborhood. He mowed and weed wacked, and then, then he eliminated this overgrown section that the last owners neglected. He also does an incredible job with plowing during during the winter. If you are looking for a lawn/snow company, look no further. Marty is not only reliable, he has skills, takes pride in his work, and is a person of excellent character!

He has been very professional and communicative. Squeezed us in for the end of the season! He cleaned up our lawn and took his time to do it! The lawn looks great!

How do you choose a landscaper in Rochester?
A good Rochester landscaper should understand both the growing season and the long winter. Ask for a site visit before agreeing to work. The company should look at drainage, soil, sun, slopes, mature trees, walkways and the places where snow gets piled.
Be clear about the job. “Make it nicer” is a lovely dream, but it is not a scope of work. List the services you need, such as lawn mowing, pruning, planting, grading, spring cleanup, fall leaf removal or snow plowing. Then ask what is included, what is billed separately and how weather changes the schedule.
Use this quick comparison when you are sorting through options:
| Service need | Questions to ask | Rochester detail to check |
|---|---|---|
| Lawn care | How often is mowing done, and are edging and cleanup included? | Ask how the plan changes during wet spring growth or summer dry spells. |
| Tree work | Who evaluates the tree, removes branches and cleans the site? | Look for a clear plan around power lines, buildings and storm damaged limbs. |
| Grading and drainage | What problem will the grading solve, and where will water go? | Confirm the plan addresses spring runoff, basement seepage or standing water. |
| Planting and garden design | Which plants fit the light, soil and maintenance level? | Ask about winter hardiness, deer pressure and salt near driveways. |
| Snow removal | What areas are cleared, and how soon after snowfall? | Confirm driveway edges, walkways, snow storage and icy refreezing are covered. |
Request a written estimate with plant quantities, materials, labor, cleanup and maintenance terms separated when possible. Ask whether the company is insured, how storm delays are handled and who will be your contact. If the estimate is vague, the final bill may be just as mysterious, and nobody needs that surprise after a Rochester snowstorm.
Finally, choose the fit for your yard, not simply the biggest menu of services. A small planting project needs a different specialist than a steep drainage repair or a season long snow contract. Check references for similar work, read the agreement carefully and trust a company that can explain the trade-offs in plain language.
Frequently asked questions
What should I ask a Rochester landscaping company before hiring?
Ask what services are included, how weather affects scheduling, whether the company is insured, who handles cleanup and how changes are priced. For larger projects, request a written scope that covers drainage, materials, plants, labor and maintenance.
How much does landscaping cost in Rochester, New York?
The price depends on the size of the property, the service, access, materials, tree work, grading and seasonal scheduling. Lawn care and snow removal are usually priced differently from design, planting or drainage work. Request an itemized estimate for a useful comparison.
When is the best time to plant landscaping in Rochester?
Spring and fall are generally useful planting windows in Rochester, but timing depends on soil conditions, frost risk and the plant itself. A local professional can help avoid planting into cold, waterlogged soil or exposing tender plants to a late freeze.
How do Rochester homeowners prepare their yards for winter?
Clear leaves from turf and drainage areas, protect vulnerable shrubs from salt and snow piles, remove hazardous dead branches and mark hidden edges before snow arrives. Ask a landscaper about pruning, fall cleanup, snow storage and any plants that need extra protection.

A good yard in Rochester is part design, part weather strategy, and a whole lot of patience.
