Homeowners in Memphis should call a local landscaper who knows the region’s wet springs, hot summers, and heavy clay soils. Hiring a pro means getting help with design, installation, irrigation, and upkeep. The right company will match your yard’s needs and your budget, from garden beds to patios and drainage fixes.

Memphis yards are a patchwork of challenges and blessings. You get long, green springs and muggy summers, but also that heavy clay soil that holds water after a rain and bakes hard by July. If you’ve ever tried to dig a hole in August, you know what I mean.

Lawns here fight fungus and weeds, and drainage is a real issue in the low spots. The right landscaping company can help you work with what Memphis gives you. They’ll know which plants can handle the heat, how to fix soggy patches, and how to build beds and patios that last through the seasons.

Who are the best landscaping companies in Memphis?

Ordered by Google rating weighted against the number of ratings, so a long record of good work outranks a handful of perfect scores. This is a ranking of public feedback, not an endorsement.

2. Green Earth LLC

4.9 stars from 293 Google reviews.

Green Earth LLC handles every aspect of landscape and exterior work, from design to installation and upkeep. Their services include irrigation, drainage correction, grading, sod, plantings, garden beds, retaining walls, patios, and other hardscapes. They focus on creating outdoor spaces that fit both the property and the people who use them.

What customers say:

I chose to call Green Earth because I’ve seen their vehicles all around Germantown.Green Earth gave my job to Skylar Moss. My mission is to give my bride her dream backyard as I explained to the designer, Skylar during our initial meeting. She immediately started throwing me her ideas on the design. It so closely matched what my wife’s vision was once we got her ideas in the AI app we used for this project. Skylar added 10 fold to the design and we gave her Carte Blanche and gladly accepted her quote. I’m not supposed to be watching her and her team’s progress, but I’ve failed miserably! She has not completed the job, but her punctuality onsite and outstanding attention to detail has been mind blowing. She works as hard in heat and rain as her team, giving aspect her undivided attention. I’m attaching a few photos and from all accounts, our yard will be both our dream yard! I believe we will have huge issues wanting to leave for any reason. The photos show what we know will be an exquisite display of true professionally planed landscape design. This link only allows me rate her on a 5 Star scale. I wanted a chicken coop and barnyard style behind/around my workshop to blend into the beautiful flower bed and Flagstone fire pit she’s putting in. Now, she’s exceeded all my expectations with a chicken coop/play station and barnyard fenced in. Not only has she gone above and beyond, she’s reached a scale of 20 stars in my book. My advice, if you’re looking for a real landscaping company for your dream yard, call Green Earth and ask specifically for Skylar Moss, you cannot be disappointed! She knows her passion for her chosen path! I now refer to her as the Landscape Queen.

Great experience with Green Earth! Skylar gave our project extra attention and Andrew’s team executed with care and detail. We are a very satisfied customer! We went with a Vuba Stone finish to our patio, at Skylar’s recommendation, and it turned out great.

David M. Smith, 2 months ago

We had a great experience with Green Earth. The design and installation went very smooth. Skyler clearly loves landscaping and we would highly recommend her. She was there each day during the install and was available after hours. Her creative design of uniqueness and color has brought new life to the front of our house. The office staff were very kind and easy to speak to.

Eddie was prompt when I called for an estimate. He showed up with his crew on time and completed the job on time and on budget. The extra friendly touch and service can’t not be overstated. Thank you for a beautiful back yard.

Many thanks to Eddie and his crew for the fantastic job they did on the landscaping above our pool. They removed the existing rock/mulch combo and gave our holly shrubs a much needed trimming. The crew then placed a weed barrier down before filling the area with nice Mesa River Rock (3"-6"). We are extremely pleased with the final product as the area looks wonderful. Communication was great throughout the process with a fair price and no hidden costs. We would highly recommend Eddie for any landscaping projects you may be considering!

Picture Perfect Landscapes, founded by Jason Brooks in 2002, is a one-stop shop for lawn and landscaping services across Memphis. Their dedicated and trained team is committed to delivering high-quality results and upholding a strong promise to every customer.

What customers say:

Well, I did not use their landscaping services during this past snowstorm. My family was stuck in California. I contracted Picture Perfect landscaping to shovel my driveway. They did an outstanding job and I think it should be included effective immediately as one of their new services. See the before and after pictures below 5 🌠🌠🌠🌠🌠

Cathy Robbins, 5 months ago

I chose Picture Perfect Landscapes because the owner is someone I’ve known since elementary school. From the start, the process was efficient and professional. Within two business days of requesting a quote, someone came out to assess my yard and discuss options for my flower bed. Once the weather cleared, they returned within a week to complete the work—installing shrubs, flowers, and mulch in the exact color I requested. The execution matched what was discussed, and the overall quality met expectations. I tend to be detail-oriented and can usually find something to critique, but in this case, the work was completed as promised and I was fully satisfied with the outcome. I would recommend Picture Perfect Landscapes to anyone looking for reliable and well-executed landscaping design services.

Candace Hooper, 3 months ago

Beautiful grass!!! We had a drainage system installed in the backyard with new turf and removal of old shrubs. It is now so lush that the dog rolls in it! We had a great experience with sales, installation and service. Everyone was professional and communicative throughout the process, which was relatively fast and straightforward. We highly recommend Picture Perfect!

6. Hodges Tree & Landscape

4.7 stars from 132 Google reviews.

Hodges Tree & Landscape is based in Millington, TN, and has grown from a humble beginning into a thriving business. The company is dedicated to the craft of landscaping and is committed to nurturing green spaces and creating lasting memories for its customers.

What customers say:

I waited until this bill was completely paid before posting this review. Call me old-fashioned, but I prefer to pay my bills before I settle scores. First, the good. They cut the tree down. The tree is unquestionably down. In fact, they were so successful at cutting down the tree that they transformed it from one tree into what appeared to be several smaller trees and at least one long-term relationship issue. The problem started when we asked them not to haul the wood away because we have a wood-burning stove. Instead, we requested that it be cut into "manageable pieces." Now, I understand language can be imprecise. What I did not realize was that "manageable pieces" apparently falls into the same category as "reasonable," "soon," and "we should get together sometime." Everyone has their own definition. When they finished, they left behind logs that weighed hundreds of pounds and were large enough that moving them would have required either specialized equipment or a second mortgage. These weren't pieces of firewood. These were future landmarks. When I contacted them, I was informed that manageable was open to interpretation. I suppose that's true. Technically, a rhinoceros is manageable if you're equipped correctly. That doesn't mean I'd leave one in somebody's backyard and call the job finished. I explained that these pieces were far beyond what a typical homeowner could reasonably move, split, or burn. I was then offered a solution. More money. For additional money, they would return and cut the logs into smaller pieces. I have to admit, I respect the confidence. Not everyone can look at a problem and immediately identify a new revenue stream. At that point, we informed them that we were unhappy with the outcome and would still pay the remaining balance, but that we intended to do so over time because we expected to spend additional money hiring someone else to make the wood usable. We didn't hide that. We told them directly. Their response was essentially, "We understand that's your position. We just don't agree with it." Which is fair enough. Unfortunately, they also continued adding late fees every month. So while we were spending money dealing with logs that were too large to use, we were also paying additional fees for not paying the entire balance immediately. From a business perspective, it was fascinating. I was paying one company because the first company didn't finish the job the way I understood it, while simultaneously paying the first company extra because I was paying the second company. Somewhere in there I suspect an accountant achieved enlightenment. The tree is gone. The logs remained for a very long time. At this point they've occupied my property longer than some tenants. I've attached photos. If your definition of "manageable pieces" matches what's shown in those pictures, then you'll probably be very happy with the results. If your definition involves one homeowner, a chainsaw, and a Saturday afternoon, get every detail in writing and define every term as though you're negotiating a peace treaty.

I appreciated the whole process, from the initial request for services, receiving the quote within a day, time given for me to decide when to have the services done, moving forward with the services ,the beginning and completion of the project. All this along with great communication between office staff and Project Manager, to me. The equipment use was top notch and the crew was very professional. Thank you Hodges Trees for making this a great experience, will definitely use again.

7. Solo Landscape, LLC

4.8 stars from 85 Google reviews.

What customers say:

We are very pleased with the patio renovation project SOLO completed. Patrick was helpful in the design process by making adjustments to the rendering in order to ensure we were happy with the design. Once the work started, the crew completed the project in the estimated timeline and communication on what to expect was clear and accurate. Upon tear out of the existing patio, a siding issue was discovered and SOLO was quick to coordinate a solution to the issue. For reference, our project included a wood patio tear out, and installation of an exposed aggregate patio with stone work + lighting was completed.

Megan Roney, 10 months ago

Patrick and his Solo team did an awesome job on our project. Patrick came out and I showed him our space and a general idea that I had in my head, and he took the rest and designed it and gave me several options based on various costs and considerations. He didn’t try to oversell but wanted to give me choices, which I very much appreciated. He was willing to work with me within our purchasing rules and regulations and made it easy to work with him. He followed up regularly to make sure I was satisfied and gave me frequent updates on when they would start and how long it would take. The project resulted in a great upgrade to our front entrance and something I think our community will be very proud of.

10. Buena Vista Landscape

4.8 stars from 66 Google reviews.

What customers say:

Buena Vista Landscape did a great job with several spaces on our property. Some turf around our new pool, sod in the yard where the trucks and refuse from pool build killed our grass, and some flower beds also refreshed! They are prompt, professional and kind. If you need anything by way of landscape…do yourself a favor and call them! Manny and his brother Edwin will not disappoint !

Sandra Kelly Design, 2 months ago

Manny and his crew did a great job on our turf install! There was a lot attention to detail. They were able to run the turf all the way up to the pool coping and retaining wall seamlessly. The putting green has multiple tiers, so there is slope and break for lots of different kinds of putts. They put in an irrigation system on the outside of the retaining wall to cool the turf down on really hot days. Alternatively, when it rains really heavy, the drainage they put in works incredibly well. My family played various games in our backyard last night with no bugs to bother us. This has been a great experience!

Jamie Stockton, a month ago

From start to finish, it was an amazing experience with Manuel and his crew at Buena Vista. The pricing was wonderful and it was hands down one of the most pleasant interactions I've ever had with a contractor. Quick and efficient work that looks absolutely stunning. Cannot wait to cross paths with them on my next project.
