Kansas City homeowners have plenty of choices for landscaping help, from patio builds to full lawn care. Hiring a pro means less time sweating over clay soil and more time enjoying your yard. The right landscaper can handle design, install, and even snow removal, so you get a space that works for every season.

Kansas City yards have a mind of their own. The summers get hot and sticky, winters can freeze deep, and that clay soil holds water until it doesn’t. You might fight crabgrass in July, then mud in April, and wish for a little more shade by August.

A good landscaper in Kansas City knows the rhythm of this place. They work with the heavy soil, the sudden storms, and the fact that your yard needs to look good from the first dogwood bloom to the last leaf drop. Whether you want a patio for barbecue season or just a lawn that survives the year, there’s someone here who can help.

Who are the best landscaping companies in Kansas City?

Ordered by Google rating weighted against the number of ratings, so a long record of good work outranks a handful of perfect scores. This is a ranking of public feedback, not an endorsement.

We had a fantastic experience with Mears Lawn and Landscape from start to finish. From the initial inquiry and on-site consultation to the bid process, design adjustments, installation, and final walkthrough, everything was handled professionally and with great care. I especially want to recognize the outstanding team we worked with: Jennifer, Jared, Gustavo, and Miguel. Jennifer was incredibly patient in listening to our ideas and design preferences while also confidently offering suggestions and encouraging us to consider possibilities we hadn’t thought of before. Her expertise and vision made our project even better. Jared, our on-site project manager, was excellent with communication. He took the time to walk us through the final layout before work began and was always available to answer what felt like dozens of questions throughout the project. We always knew what was happening and felt completely informed. Gustavo and Miguel were the true superstars of the installation. They worked tirelessly, even on the hottest days, to ensure everything was completed correctly and according to the design. They regularly checked in with us for real-time decisions and made us feel like true partners in the process. They were also wonderful with our kids and family, who loved watching them work when we got home from school and work each day. The entire team made this project a great experience, and the finished product exceeded our expectations. I would gladly work with Mears Lawn and Landscape again in the future and would specifically request this same project team.

2. Trey's Lawn & Landscape

4.8 stars from 168 Google reviews.

Trey's Lawn & Landscape offers a wide range of services, from building patios and landscaping to lawn and tree care, irrigation, snow removal, outdoor lighting, and pest control. They aim to make landscaping easy by being a single point of contact for all outdoor needs.

What customers say:

We completed an addition to our home last year, which resulted in a new patio and the need for extensive landscaping. We contacted several local companies. Some were responsive, some were not. Ultimately, we were most impressed by the landscape design Joel Palacios created for us at Trey's Lawn & Landscape. Because of the timing, we made a partial payment in advance so the work could be completed this spring. I have to say we were extremely impressed by the two-person crew who completed the installation. They finished the entire project in one day, and when they left, our yard was spotless. It almost looked like they had never been there. To say we were happy with our decision would be an understatement. The finished project looked fantastic. Since the installation, a few of the perennials have struggled to establish themselves. We've been told that perennials often take a full growing season to develop their root systems, so we're hopeful they'll return healthy and vibrant next spring. Time will tell.

Joel and his crew did a great job with our project. We live in a new area with a small lot and no trees. Joel recommended some options that will provide some much needed privacy and pleasing appearance. We couldn’t be happier with the results. I was very pleased with the care and cleanup each day of the job site. They even relocated existing sprinkler heads and nozzles to make sure new landscaping and trees were getting watered. We will definitely call on Trey’s for any future landscaping services.

Steve Horton, 9 months ago

Thank you so much to Joel with Trey's Landscaping who did a fantastic job of translating our requests into reality. We had a 3 large trees replace and 2 new planting beds created. He and his team were very communicative, responsive and pivoted easily when we made some on the spot changes. We are very happy with the results. Thank you again!!

3. Hinkle Outdoor Living

4.8 stars from 144 Google reviews.

Hinkle Outdoor Living serves the Kansas City metro area on both the Kansas and Missouri sides, including Platte, Wyandotte, Overland Park, and more. Their process includes a design phase and a build timeline tailored to the scope of each project, with clear communication throughout.

What customers say:

We did a large outdoor kitchen build!! (High 200k) Finished 8/2024. Although we had some communication issues during construction that led to some headaches; overall we absolutely love the space. We spend every family function and event outside and will enjoy this for the rest of our lives. So far a few things have come up (post construction) that have been addressed and fixed promptly and we are very happy with that. It’s good to know that the finished product is still followed up and taken care of after the bills are paid! And for that we are very happy!

Cheryl Schmidt, a year ago

Hinkle was thorough in their planning. They installed drainage around the pool and my yard in order for the project to last and for us to enjoy a clean space. They followed through on my requests all the way till the end. And they responded to my calls in a timely fashion. The pool is beautiful, too!

michelle de souza, 2 months ago

We needed to have some repair work done on our front porch due to some drainage issues. We contacted Hinkle Hardscapes and they were able to create a design that we loved and fix the drainage issue at the same time. We enlarged and created a great outdoor space with a front patio. Ken walked us through different material options so we could make the best decision for our needs. The designer was happy to make changes to their original design to accommodate our elderly limited mobility family members. The construction team was great and left the site clean every day. I would definitely use Hinkle Hardscape again for my hardscaping needs.

Trey's Lawn & Landscape, a year ago

Very friendly and helpful! I ordered gravel. One of the drivers delivered it. Dumped it exactly where I told them. I bought edging pavers earlier in the day. I went back later to pick them up. One of the employees had them loaded on a pallet and ready to go. I pulled in back and he loaded them perfect in the back of my truck. In and out fast! Thank you Homestead! I will be returning as I am doing more work very soon

4.8 stars from 125 Google reviews.

By the Blade Lawn & Landscape believes outdoor living is an extension of the home, creating spaces from stone decks to ponds and shaded lawns. They focus on making outdoor areas places of tranquility and family enjoyment, not just basic landscaping.

What customers say:

Patrick and his crew at by the blade or without a doubt the best to make it simple. Their pricing was very very competitive. I believe their work was beyond the best that I could’ve ever imagined and I recommend them to anybody that wants a very professional and looking like $1 million job !!

Pete Franklin, 3 months ago

Shawn and his team at By the Blade were excellent. Very professional and tidy. Kept us informed. Once the project started, they were working hard every day to get done. Landscaping is beautiful! Shawn made great stone and plant choices.

Kersten Holzhueter, 3 years ago

We had several companies come out and give us a bid on repairing our fire pit. By the Blade was the only one that didn’t suggest that we needed to buy all new equipment. They replaced what was needed quickly and at a great price. The communication was fantastic. I highly recommend!

6. Mountain Landscaping

4.8 stars from 115 Google reviews.

What customers say:

Our experience rebuilding a retaining wall by our Leawood driveway with Mountain Landscaping has been fantastic! Juan was very calm and thorough in planning and managing our project, and Sandy, the Administrative Assistant is very detailed and quick to respond with quotes and contracts. I like how they put everything in writing to sign and approve ahead of time. We made a couple of changes along the way, and they sent estimates to approve before they did the extra work so there were no surprises. The work crew did a quality job, sometimes working until 8 p.m. to beat the rain. They had to build our wall by hand because it was flush against our neighbor's fence and yet they did it right by burying the rock to stabilize the wall and installing a drainage pipe in gravel. Our previous wall collapsed, so they installed those bricks around the garden around the perimeter of the house and buried a downspout, plus they built a gravel pad for a shed and replaced a tree our roofers destroyed. They installed 3 long poles we bought at Graingers into concrete for our pickleball/basketball net. They even went the extra mile to put some seed in the very small areas that got damaged by the building process. I would highly recommend Mountain Landscaping.

lori harrison, 2 months ago

I recently hired Mountain Landscaping for a stone landscape stair project at my home in Kansas City, Missouri, and I am extremely happy with the results. From the initial estimate through project completion, communication was clear and timely. The crew was courteous, efficient, and paid close attention to detail throughout the installation. The new stone steps look fantastic, blend beautifully with the existing retaining wall, and have significantly improved both the appearance and functionality of the space. Juan, Sandy, and the Mountain Landscaping team were a pleasure to work with and demonstrated professionalism from start to finish. Their craftsmanship and commitment to quality were evident in every aspect of the project. If you’re looking for landscaping, hardscaping, retaining wall work, or custom stone steps in the Kansas City area, I highly recommend Mountain Landscaping. I wouldn’t hesitate to work with them again on future projects.

Jon Lord, 2 months ago

Mountain Landscaping replaced two old retaining walls, one on each side of my driveway. I documented their progress each day and my uncle said, they are doing it the right way. A project like this is not cheap, but I believe they earned every penny. I love it.

7. Quality Lawn & Landscape Bros.

4.9 stars from 100 Google reviews.

What customers say:

Update Quality Lawn and Landscape has since reached out to me and they are wanting to make their mistake right with me. They are going to work with me over the next few weeks to try to remedy this situation. I’ll update more as my experience with them progresses. Poor experience with Quality Lawn and Landscape Bros. They poorly trimmed several of my mature evergreen bushes by aggressively and improperly trimming the lower half, leaving them bare, brown, and exposed—essentially ruining years of growth in a single visit. The tops of the bushes are still full and lush, clearly showing that the damage was not caused by disease, but by careless trimming from the ground up. This level of damage is not something that can be explained away—it’s the result of a total lack of understanding of how to maintain or shape these plants.

Brandon Wyckoff, a year ago

They came did a FANTASTIC job! No headaches or problems.

Aaron, a year ago

Quality Lawn I don't know where to begin honestly. They've always been prompt, professional, and the prices are very reasonable when you consider other available companies in the KC area. I will stay with them as long as they will have me or until they sell the business if such a time comes to pass. The owner is down to earth. Provides realistic expectations in any communication. Will let you know if what you're asking for doesn't match the budget or would not look good for the house that the work is being done too. Hope everyone has the same experience as me. Happy 2025 and forward to everyone who reads this review.

9. Keller's Landscaping

4.6 stars from 106 Google reviews.

Keller's Landscaping is a locally owned, family-run business providing professional landscaping and hardscaping since 1988. They serve residential and commercial clients across Kansas City and the Lake of Ozarks, with experienced technicians and a focus on quality products.

What customers say:

Keller Landscaping did an awesome job taking out the 50 year old railroad ties and replacing them with stone. The men were very considerate of my plants and yard and when they left they put everything back and blew off the walk. Very pleased

Ginny Adams, 5 months ago

Could not be more pleased with the outcome of a 70 ft long by 4 ft tall retaining wall, along with downspout burying and drainage piping installation project masterfully done by Keller's Landscaping. After a somewhat lengthy search and multiple estimates from many different landscape companies, I was the most impressed with Keller's from the start. Jim Keller was always exemplary at communicating and more than willing to return to my residence time and time again to look over, re-measure, answer questions, etc. prior to me committing to moving ahead. They were also the only company to provide a computer generated, projected aerial view of my property with the parameters shown of what the project would look like with the wall in place along with the drainage piping. His professionalism, experience, customer service from the onset - along with competitive pricing - were more than enough for me to make the decision that Keller's was the right choice. Work started on 10/16 and finished on 10/30. His builders are experts at their craft and the end results are true testaments to their abilities and skill. I was thankfully able to be at home for the most part of the project and it was very interesting watching the transformation of the landscape. They tirelessly put in full days worth of work, Monday through Thursday, that I very much appreciated. The final step after all fill dirt had been put in place and downspouts buried was they put grass seed down everywhere and then covered with straw netting, as shown as the light tan areas in the pics. Will be a recovery process for the grass but was well worth it! Would absolutely recommend Keller's Landscaping to anyone for a landscape or drainage improvement project. Thanks again guys!

10. Lawnscape Specialists

4.9 stars from 74 Google reviews.

What customers say:

Before using Lawnscape Specialists this year, my front yard was a disaster! I had so many weeds last year that I killed everything 3 times. This 2026 Spring I turned over my front yard to them. They seeded and are treating the lawn. It's been about 8 weeks now into May and I have people walking by that stop and tell me they love my yard. This rates as one of my best lawncare decisions ever!

Steve Bode, 3 months ago

5 Star for sure. Erik was prompt and did a complete job. Being careful to spray every where there was a weed. I like keeping my money local.

Loy SHORT, 3 weeks ago

Our yard was transformed from a weed filled backyard to a beautiful area now.

How do you choose a landscaper in Kansas City?

Picking a landscaper in Kansas City is about more than price. You want someone who knows how to work with heavy clay and the wild swings from humid heat to hard freeze. Ask if they’ve handled drainage issues, not just mowing. Look for real photos of their work and ask about their process, some do design and install, others just maintenance. If your yard floods in spring or bakes by August, tell them. A good pro will have a plan for both.
