Top 10 Landscaping Companies in Huntsville, Alabama
Compare 10 Huntsville landscaping companies for lawn care, outdoor living, lighting, drainage, planting, and hardscape projects

A Huntsville homeowner should call a landscaper whose services match the job, whether that means lawn maintenance, planting, drainage, lighting, grading, or a patio. Hiring one usually involves a site visit, a written scope, material choices, a project timeline, and a clear plan for handling Huntsville’s clay soil, slopes, heat, and heavy rain.
Huntsville yards get a real four-season workout. Summers are hot and humid, spring storms can bring sudden downpours, and winter still has enough bite to damage tender plants. The soil often leans heavy and clay-rich, with rocky ground and limestone close beneath it in some neighborhoods.
That combination creates familiar headaches: standing water after rain, compacted beds, eroding slopes, patchy turf, and plants that struggle through July. A good landscaper should understand drainage before reaching for decorative rock, because pretty mulch does not fix a soggy foundation.
Think about the whole yard, too. Mature trees, shade, deer pressure, irrigation, and the amount of time you actually want to spend pulling weeds all shape the right plan. I have killed enough basil to respect a site assessment, especially when Alabama weather is doing its dramatic little dance.
Who are the best landscaping companies in Huntsville?
Ordered by Google rating weighted against the number of ratings, so a long record of good work outranks a handful of perfect scores. This is a ranking of public feedback, not an endorsement.

Micha and the team were wonderful and the work done exceeded my expectations. The team was very professional, courteous and informative. I will definitely contact VLC for future landscaping projects! Well done.
Melanie Golding, 10 months ago
In May 2025 I contracted with VLC to perform some minor grading and sod replacement in my back yard. After a few delays due to weather and scheduling conflict where the work would have been completed while I was out of town, my contract was satisfied in mid July. The first day that they were on site, they did not address all areas that were originally estimated so I had to schedule them to come back out later and address what was omitted. That work was not completed until the last few days of July 2025. Within a few weeks of the work being completed, a large portion of the sod had not taken root and was obviously dormant or dead. I contacted them and a few days later someone from management came out and assessed the sod. He stated that we were headed into the dormant season and we would reassess at the beginning of the next summer. On 18 May I contacted them because the sod had still not begun to grow and still remained dead. I received an automated response stating that someone would reach out to me to discuss, but no further response was provided. I sent another email on 27 May and received the same automated response until someone showed up on 01 June. They spoke with my wife and told her that management would be in touch to discuss my issue. No one followed up with either of us after that visit. I emailed them again on 06/24 and 07/05 along with two text messages sent to their system. All of these were responded with the same automated "someone will contact you". After multiple attempts to correct the issues with the work put in place, I contacted them for a final time today and informed them of me placing this review. I also informed them that as a veteran, I wanted to support a veteran owned business and willingly paid them a higher rate for the same work. I kept this internal before posting any review because I wanted to give them an opportunity to address my concerns or even acknowledge my request. At this point however, I can no longer give them the benefit of the doubt. Please be aware when reviewing this company. It pains me to say that I cannot recommend them for any work moving forward. Should you choose to work with them, hopefully your results will be more positive. Thank you.

The gents from VLC&L were awesome. They showed up early, worked hard, and were never too busy to answer questions. They did quality work and cleaned the site before leaving. It was evident that they intended to do the job right!

These guys did a great job and I would highly recommend them. I had a drainage issue in my backyard, and they installed drop inlets tied into approximately 300’ of 6” pipe including tying in downspouts. To complete the job they installed over 1000sf of sod. These guys worked hard and the quality is first class.

We had a difficult project to complete after a previous landscaping mishap from another company. Felipe and his professional team were able to repair all of the mistakes and transform our front and back yard from a disaster to something beautiful! They are extremely professional, accommodating and very reasonably priced. We cannot say enough good things about Yellow Jacket and we would highly recommend them.

Adrian and his crew at The Outdoor Group are absolutely phenomenal! From start to finish. Their professionalism, attention to detail, and work ethic went above and beyond my expectations. They listened carefully to my ideas, offered creative suggestions, and turned my outdoor space into something truly beautiful. Every project they’ve worked on has been completed with precision, care, and a genuine passion for their craft. The entire team is friendly, reliable, and takes pride in their work — and it shows in every detail. I couldn’t be happier with the results, and I highly recommend The Outdoor Group to anyone looking for top-quality landscaping and superb service.

Abandoned the project! Where do I begin… Adrian was very quick to take my deposit on a retaining wall, but extremely slow to do any work. We signed a contract in October and on March 22nd I fired him for not completing the work. 160+ days and didn’t finish the job. He would show up for a day and work, then a month or longer would go by and nothing. I was constantly on top of him to do any work. He was always promising and never delivering. Please avoid this guy at all costs.

What customers say:
This company is superb in everything they do, including mowing my lawn, trimming shrubs, planting, clearing weeds from my flower beds, mulching, installing a brick border around my flower beds. The border is gorgeous!!! The brick mason is topnotch!!! The owner of the company, personally, spent a whole day searching for bricks to match the bricks of my house. Then, he even took his brick mason with him to collaborate on the choice of bricks for a final decision. The choice of bricks was definitely the correct choice. The owner is very relatable, personable, and dedicated to excellence. He and his crew are beyond outstanding. They're always reliable and beyond reproach in the quality of their work. If you're looking for an exceptional company to take care of your lawn and flower beds, this is the one you're looking for.

The Other Side Landscaping did an amazing job on my yard! Tony and his crew were extremely precise with each part of the project. I was so impressed that his attention to detail was impeccable. The border is measured very accurately and cemented in place! He did extra things that I had not expected as well which really made the work completed extra special. You won’t be disappointed if you hire The Other Side Landscaping ! You may pay a little more than other quotes, but it is well worth every penny. Call Tony and get an estimate. He’s really amazing! Thanks, Tony and crew , for a job very well done!

Ok, your tired of landscape companies blowing you off, not calling you back, not showing up when they say they will. Cross over to the other side. The owner calls you back, brings a crew that works fast, and charges you what he quoted.

We are so pleased with the landscaping work that Lorenzo and his team completed for us. They completely transformed our outdoor beds, and we absolutely love the beautiful paver borders they installed. The crew removed overgrown shrubs, roots, and trees, giving our yard a fresh new look. They also tore down our old wooden deck and replaced it with a stunning paver patio featuring brick stairs and a wrought iron railing. The finished project is absolutely beautiful and has completely enhanced our outdoor space. Lorenzo and his team were professional, hardworking, and attentive to detail throughout the entire process. Their pricing was very reasonable, and the quality of their work exceeded our expectations. We highly recommend this company for any landscaping or outdoor renovation needs and will definitely use them again in the future!

Eastview is the best landscaping company around, they give more than competitive quotes for all landscaping needs. I've had them do finish grading and sod work for around my pool and then a couple months later they installed 150ft of drainpipe for me. Great company, the owner is more than fair, and the pricing is better than the rest.
nick nay, 3 weeks ago
The Eastview crew built a beautiful retaining wall for us. The price was the best I could find after a dozen quotes and they were able to get started very quickly. I was initially tempted to try to build the wall myself but I'm so glad I didn't. The guys obviously knew what they were doing and got the wall done sooner than expected. It was a big project but the attention to detail was impressive. I won't hesitate to contact them in the future for any other landscaping projects I have. Highly recommended.

What customers say:
We hired Legacy Outdoor Services to put in brick borders for our flower beds and then to put in a concrete and brick patio with flower beds in our back yard. From the very beginning they were professional and timely. They kept us well informed on when work would be done and honored those schedules, very unusual in construction these days! They worked with us very closely on plans and were happy to adjust when something needed to be changed. Their main concern was that we were happy with the results. It was a pleasure to deal with everyone who was involved with our project. We couldn’t be happier with our patio and we enthusiastically recommend Legacy Outdoor to anyone needing landscaping work done.
Kim Ramseier, 4 years ago
Abraham and his crew were professional, courteous, and performed everything that I expected, while keeping me informed if anything unexpected came up. They fixed some major drainage and erosion issues in the back yard (see before and after photos) by burying downspouts, building a French drain that went out to the road, and tying the downspouts into the drain. It is super satisfying to watch tons of water just pouring out of the drain into the street after a heavy rain. They also graded and re-sodded the yard with Zoysia for less than it would have cost me to personally buy the Zoysia and lay the sod myself. I highly recommend Legacy for your personal landscaping project.
Sullivan Edwards (Sully), 6 years ago
So I wish I could give a higher score for this company, but after having our fence replaced and having a patio built there were a few issues along the way. The good: The patio turned out very nice and is almost exactly what we envisioned. The fence is a huge improvement over what was falling down before. The problems: While replacing the fence the fence company went in and cut out many plantings and bushes that they deemed in their way without any warning to us they also allowed the fence to fall on some bushes causing the bush to break off at the ground or die. They also placed an obviously seen sprinkler head into my neighbors yard that I had to move back to my side. The fence was supposed to be an exact replacement but it had been moved here and there slightly and the gates were now a larger size than before which would be fine but we had border walls that lined up with the gates that were now out in the open. When told the job was finished some things were left undone/unfixed or in a mess and we had to point them out and state how these things were done by legacy and should be completed/fixed by them. In the end we had about 5 issues, legacy fixed 2 of them I fixed 1 but nothing was ever done about the plantings that died. No one has contacted us to ask our feelings on how it turned out which I find odd when this much has been spent on an improvement. Waited a while for work to begin but once it started it was knocked out quickly. Would use them again but would make sure that the workorder was thoroughly defined.

MC Lawn & Landscaping has been caring for our house for over 8 years and they have always been attentive, proactive, and helped us out. I remember when I was heavily pregnant in the summer, they went above and beyond to helped cut back bushes, clear out weeds, and tear down ivy which was out of scope of why they were asked to do. We also have a tough lawn on a steep hill, but it always looks great. They have done a whole host of services for us, from lawn care to winter cleaning, power washing, gutter cleaning, mulching, small repairs, etc. They always do a professional job. You can see attached before / after work from power washing, including our retaining wall, and fixing up a gutter drain that was damaged. I highly recommend their services!

Called and received an in person quote same day and had the work scheduled and completed the next week! They were incredibly efficient and did an outstanding job! They removed trees, bushes, vines, a broken trellis, and restored our flower beds and stone pavings. Communication was timely and clear through the whole process. We got 5 different landscape quotes so I am super happy we decided to contract MC and would recommend them readily :)

Everyone I worked with on my hardscaping and landscaping project were awesome and did everything they could to provide excellent customer service. From the initial discussion of the plan through to the final walk through with Adam was exceptional. The folks in accounting were always available to answer any question about our account. The two main landscapers Jaun and Julio were excellent and paid attention to every detail. They even would take a few minutes to pet my Scottish Terrier. I highly recommend this organization for any of your landscaping or hardscaping needs. I had enquired with three other people before I finally had the good fortune of contacting Southern Landscape. I contacted them during the holiday season and they were able to work through design (shout out here to the designer) to complete the project in less than eight weeks. It was a very large project. I also appreciate the expertise that Brandon gave to the project. Highly recommend!

Adam, Brandon and their team did an excellent job on our outdoor patio. They went up and beyond repairing what had originally been installed incorrectly by another former employee. They stood by their work even though the warranty had expired. We would recommend them on any project as they are excellent on customer service after the sale. Thank you Adam, Brandon and the team for a job well done.

Beyond impressed with the quality, craftsmanship, and service Southern Scape brought to our home. Our front yard was due an upgrade. From the start, Southern Scape sent employees that saw our vision and enhanced our ideas. Their staff were dedicated, polite, and professional. The actual transformation that happened in our front yard almost seemed like magic. The finished product not only adds aesthetically pleasing value to our home, but a genuine joy for the artistry constructed. We find ourselves going outside daily to admire, and have had multiple neighbors inquire about who did our yard. Thank you, Southern Scape!

How do you choose a landscaper in Huntsville?
Start with the problem, not the brochure. A lawn care company may be perfect for recurring mowing and maintenance, while a general contractor may be better suited to grading, drainage, patios, fences, or outdoor structures. Ask each company how it approaches your soil, slope, sun exposure, and water flow before discussing finishes.
Get the scope in writing. It should identify plant removal, grading, bed preparation, drainage work, materials, irrigation changes, cleanup, maintenance, and the expected timeline. If the proposal only says “landscape package,” ask for more detail. Your future self will be grateful, especially after the first hard rain.
Ask these practical questions:
- Who will handle permits or utility checks if the project needs them?
- How will runoff be directed away from the house and neighboring properties?
- What plants are suited to the available sun, soil, and irrigation?
- Which materials are included, and what could change the price?
- Is follow-up maintenance available after installation?
- How will weather delays affect the schedule?
Use the comparison below to match the project type with the questions that matter most.
| Project type | What to confirm | Common Huntsville concern |
|---|---|---|
| Lawn care and cleanup | Visit frequency, edging, leaf removal, and seasonal services | Heat stress, shade, and compacted soil |
| Planting and garden beds | Soil preparation, plant selection, mulch depth, and watering | Clay soil, deer, and summer drought |
| Drainage and grading | Slope, discharge point, erosion control, and site restoration | Heavy rain and water collecting near foundations |
| Patios, walks, and outdoor living | Base preparation, drainage, materials, and construction timeline | Settling soil and runoff on sloped yards |
| Landscape lighting | Fixture type, wire placement, controls, warranty, and maintenance | Safe installation around trees, paths, and wet areas |
| Fences and structures | Materials, property lines, footings, and permit needs | Uneven terrain and storm exposure |
Do not skip references for larger work. Look for completed projects with similar slopes, drainage needs, or hardscape materials. A trustworthy contractor can explain the trade-offs plainly, including what costs more, what needs ongoing care, and what should wait until the soil or weather cooperates.
Frequently asked questions
How much does landscaping cost in Huntsville, Alabama?
The price depends on the size of the yard, site preparation, materials, drainage needs, plant choices, and whether the work is maintenance or construction. Request an itemized estimate that separates labor, materials, grading, irrigation changes, cleanup, and ongoing care.
What plants grow well in Huntsville yards?
Plants suited to Huntsville usually need to tolerate humid summers, occasional winter freezes, and heavy or compacted soil. Native and adapted trees, shrubs, perennials, and ornamental grasses are often strong choices, but the best selection depends on sun, drainage, deer pressure, and the soil in your specific yard.
Do Huntsville landscapers help with drainage problems?
Many landscaping and general contracting companies handle drainage, grading, erosion control, or related site work, but services vary. Ask how the proposed solution will move water, where it will discharge, how it protects the foundation, and what restoration is included afterward.
When is the best time to landscape in Huntsville?
Fall and early spring are often comfortable seasons for planting and major outdoor work, while mild winter days can also suit construction. Projects should still be scheduled around saturated clay, severe storms, summer heat, and the possibility of a late freeze.

A well-planned Huntsville yard should handle the rain, respect the clay, and still give you a lovely place to sit when the evening finally cools down.
