For a Fontana yard, call a landscaper whose services match the job, whether that means synthetic turf, lawn care, tree work, pergolas or commercial maintenance. Hiring one usually involves a site visit, a written scope, material choices, irrigation planning and a schedule that respects the Inland Empire heat.

Fontana homeowners should compare landscapers by the work their yards actually need, not by a glossy promise. The city’s hot, dry summers, Santa Ana winds and limited rainfall can turn a green lawn into a very thirsty habit.

Soil adds another wrinkle. Many yards have compacted, alkaline soil or construction fill that drains poorly in one spot and dries hard in another. Add shade from mature trees, reflected heat from walls and water restrictions, and suddenly the right plant is doing half the work.

A good landscaper should talk through irrigation, drainage, grading, soil preparation and long-term maintenance before anyone starts digging. Synthetic turf may save water, but it costs more upfront and still needs proper base preparation. Native and drought-tolerant plants can be gentler on the water bill, though young plants need regular care while they establish.

Who are the best landscaping companies in Fontana?

Ordered by Google rating weighted against the number of ratings, so a long record of good work outranks a handful of perfect scores. This is a ranking of public feedback, not an endorsement.

1. Rp Synthetic Turf

5.0 stars from 159 Google reviews.

Rp Synthetic Turf is praised for a polished front-yard installation completed in two days. The description highlights an honest estimate, attention to budget and timing, coordination with other property work, careful preparation and close attention to details such as matching a painted trim to the river-rock design.

What customers say:

Want turf? Look no further. Rigo and his team are all you need! A little back story. My husband and I started our backyard reno with a new pool build. However, our pool budget left us about 1000 sf of unfinished space (we have a pretty big backyard). We initially planned on covering that space with decorative rock, but after seeing numerous turf and putting green projects on IG, we knew that would be a way better option for us in the long run. RP Synthetic was top on my list after coming across their IG. I saw that they had 5 star ratings on Google & Yelp and decided to book an estimate with them. I also booked other estimates with a couple other companies, but Rigo was able to book us faster than the others. We had about 9 estimates done for our pool, so we honestly didn't have high expectations that the first turf company would check off everything on our list. Maaaaaan were we wrong. When we met Rigo, we instantly felt comfortable with him. No awkwardness, no weird vibes. When my husband told him what he wanted, Rigo instantly saw his vision. When we asked for his input, he only enhanced our ideas and made it even better. He was well prepared with tools to layout what the design would look like for us, and also brought samples of the turf so we could choose right then and there. In the end, we canceled all our other appointments for estimates and went with Rigo. No regrets and his service exceeded our expectations. He never ghosted us, always responded to text messages and phone calls, and when he said he would be at our house between 8-8:30, he was there ready to go with his team. Everyone was so nice and they always did a solid clean up before they left. But most important of all, it was the small things they took care of that we didn't think of mentioning. Like trimming down our mango tree that was completely neglected for so long, covering up a patch of dirt that we figured we'd handle later on down the road, and he even fixed our crappy turf job in the front yard (done by another company who clearly lacked in turf experience). We instantly got compliments on our front yard. Our neighbor noticed the fix right away and told us that the new turf looked way better, and more realistic too. I can say all these things, but it doesn't mean much without visuals IMO, so l've attached before and afters. See for yourself! You definitely won't go wrong with choosing RP Synthetic Turf as your turf experts!

Highly recommend RP Synthetic Turf! Rigo and his crew did a fantastic job on our backyard project. He was very thorough with explaining the process. He was responsive when I had questions. He actually started the project before the scheduled day. I had a last minute change after he started the project and he made it happen for us. We are very happy with his work and look forward to enjoying our new putting green. Thank you Rigo!

If you’re in the Inland Empire looking for a solid turf installer, Rigo is your guy. Personally I had been looking for months, and I’m really glad I found Rigo and his team. He truly takes care of his clients, from clearly explaining all the details of the job to delivering professional, high-quality execution. He and his crew are efficient, friendly, and hands-on. He was also personally involved in the installation (at least for my job), not just overseeing it. He’s also flexible with pricing. While he may not be the cheapest option on the market, the quality of work makes it worth it, and he’s willing to work with you on cost when possible. On top of that, he even spent extra time helping me troubleshoot my problematic sprinkler system to make sure it was properly capped and wouldn’t have any negative impact on the turf. He makes you feel comfortable throughout the process, and it’s clear he’s willing to help beyond just the installation. I believe he’ll be there for his customers if any issues come up later or if warranty/support is needed. Overall, I highly recommend Rigo and the RP Turf team to anyone thinking about installing turf—you’ll be in good hands.

5. Gavino Landscaping Commercial Landscaping Services

4.4 stars from 30 Google reviews.

What customers say:

This morning on June 9, 2025 at 6 AM I was in drive-through at Starbucks on Hamner.. Whoever was working, your guises Weedwhacker was literally right next to the vehicles in the drive-through and he was cutting up the dirt and kicking up rocks at vehicles in the drive-through. My car is literally three days old and he kicked up a bunch of rocks and hit my car and I’m yelling at him through my window and he is completely ignoring me!!! I drove out of drive-through and parked next to your work truck and tried to speak to the other gentleman there but he was acting like he couldn’t hear me or maybe he didn’t understand me.. So I took a picture of your vehicle so I could contact you via online. I don’t appreciate your employee kicking up on my brand new car you see there is a bunch of cars in drive-through. You do not do that and damage peoples vehicles.! You wait until there’s no more cars in the drive-through to get to that so you don’t damage peoples properties!! I will be writing a review on every page about your company and the irresponsible And disrespect of your employee. I’m getting my car looked at and if there is any chips in my paint, you will be liable for this, The employees at Starbucks saw it happen. I have plenty of witnesses..

I’m the property manager of a local business in Riverside. I had a lot of problems with the timer and the wires, I hired a couple of companies but they were not able to solve the issue, finally I contacted Andy (who I believed is the general manager) he sent one of his techs and he fixed the issue at a reasonable price. I highly recommend Gavino Landscaping for all of your landscaping needs, I have since hired Gavino Landscaping to maintain my property as well.

6. Southern California Landscape

4.1 stars from 14 Google reviews.

What customers say:

They took out the old landscape of our family storefront and replaced it with a beautiful, refreshed look. Super happy with the construction. Right on budget, will be using them again.

Austin Nash, a year ago

The prices are great. The quality of the products are great. But twice now I've gone there at opening time and no one is there. Today I rented a truck to pick up product and at 9am, no one was there. I called and got a machine. So there is a rental fee down the drain and can't complete my project. When I called Thursday no one said they'd be closed today.

Samantha Soto, 5 years ago

Had them do my property which started off as nothing but a dirt lot. We added concrete, sprinklers, grass, planters, curbing it all turned out amazing and was done fast. They showed up 7 am on the dot everyday and were extremely polite and professional. I would leave 10 stars if I could. Landscaping Experts!

How do you choose a landscaper in Fontana?

Start with the scope. A company that is excellent at tree care may not be the right fit for a full front-yard redesign, and a turf installer may not handle irrigation repairs or planting. Ask what the crew will prepare, remove, install and maintain.

Get the details in writing. The proposal should identify materials, plant sizes, turf or paving specifications, drainage work, irrigation changes, cleanup and the payment schedule. In Fontana, ask specifically how the plan handles heat, wind, compacted soil and water use.

Look at the maintenance burden honestly. A low-water landscape is not a no-water landscape, and artificial turf is not a no-maintenance landscape. Here is a simple way to compare the main project types before you request estimates.

Project type Ask about Main trade-off
Synthetic turf Base preparation, drainage, seams and heat Lower routine watering, higher upfront cost and surface heat
Lawn care Mowing, seasonal feeding, edging and irrigation checks Ongoing service cost, especially for thirsty turf
Tree service Pruning goals, debris removal and tree health Skilled work matters more than a quick visual trim
Pergola or outdoor structure Materials, footings, shade and permits More comfort and structure, with added construction cost
Drought-tolerant planting Soil preparation, irrigation and plant establishment Lower long-term water use, but early care is still needed
Commercial landscape maintenance Visit frequency, water management and tree care Consistent coverage requires a clear service scope

Before signing, verify that the company understands the access, slope, drainage and sun exposure on your property. Ask how changes are approved, who handles damaged irrigation or plants, and what cleanup is included. A careful estimate may feel slower, but it beats discovering that the pretty part was the only part anyone priced.

Frequently asked questions

How much does landscaping cost in Fontana, California?

The price depends on the project size, materials, grading, irrigation and labor. Synthetic turf, hardscape and pergola work usually require a larger upfront budget than routine lawn care, while planting costs vary with soil preparation and mature plant sizes. Request a written estimate with each part of the work listed.

What plants grow well in Fontana’s climate?

Drought-tolerant California natives, Mediterranean plants and heat-tough shrubs can perform well in Fontana when matched to sun, soil and irrigation. Examples may include sages, manzanita, lavender, rosemary, desert willow and ornamental grasses. A local landscaper should check drainage, frost exposure and mature plant size before planting.

Is synthetic turf a good choice for a Fontana yard?

Synthetic turf can reduce routine watering and mowing, especially in a small, sunny area. It is not maintenance-free, though. Proper excavation, compacted base material, drainage, seams and heat management matter, and the initial installation cost can be significant. Ask for the full base and drainage plan, not just the turf price.

What should I ask a Fontana landscaper before hiring them?

Ask for a written scope covering preparation, materials, irrigation, drainage, cleanup, timing and payment stages. Confirm who handles permits if needed, how changes are priced and what maintenance follows installation. Ask how the design will respond to Fontana’s heat, wind, compacted soil and summer water demands.
