The 10 Best Landscaping Companies in Austin, Texas
A guide to the top 10 landscaping companies serving homeowners in Austin, Texas
August 16, 2026
By Diego Navarro

Austin homeowners looking to upgrade their yards should call a local landscaper who understands the soil, climate, and water issues unique to Central Texas. Hiring a pro means site visits, custom designs, and crews who know how to build for limestone, black clay, and hundred-degree heat.
Austin yards are a different animal. You get a few inches down and hit limestone, or you set a fence post and the black clay swallows it by spring. Summers run long, dry, and brutal, so anything you plant in April has to survive the fifth week over a hundred.
A good landscaper here does more than make things look pretty. They know how to build a path that stays put after a rain, how to set up drip so your trees make it to September, and which plants the deer will leave alone for at least a season. If you want to redo your yard, you need someone who understands Austin dirt and Austin weather.
Who are the best landscaping companies in Austin?
Ordered by Google rating weighted against the number of ratings, so a long record of good work outranks a handful of perfect scores. This is a ranking of public feedback, not an endorsement.

What customers say:
I recently had my backyard turf installed by Southern Turf, and I cannot recommend them highly enough. From start to finish, the experience was seamless. Erin was amazing to work with; she provided a clear, detailed quote and walked me through the entire process, making me feel completely confident in the project. The installation crew was equally impressive—they were incredibly dedicated, hardworking, and made sure to clean up the site at the end of every single day. What really stood out to me was their commitment to quality. It rained heavily after the first day of installation, and the team proactively came out to check on the site. They ensured everything was stable and waited for the area to properly dry out before proceeding, even returning for follow-up checks over the next two days to ensure everything was perfect. If you’re looking for a professional team that truly cares about the quality of their work, look no further than Southern Turf!

First impressions and Final impression were both great. Southern Turf competed for my business with a couple other well reviewed turf companies in the Austin area. They came out first, Including presentation, suggested ideas, service, commitment, and price (Not the cheapest, but close enough). Their sales person, Erin, presented herself as very professional and responsive. Got right to the point, understood what I was looking for, and conveyed a confidence – building impression. We agreed on an installation date that was convenient for me, and when I could be around to supervise. On the day of installation, they showed up promptly, with a large team of incredibly hard-working people. They were careful in the delivery of the equipment and materials, and responded well to my requests for placement and Cleanliness. In addition to not disturbing our other plants and pathways, they also were quick to clean up any disturbed dirt or sand from the installation. They very carefully cleared the site of grass and excess soil, and laid down the crushed granite as appropriate. When I pointed out certain details that I wanted done in a certain way, they were immediately responsive. Again, the working team were polite, hard-working, careful and efficient. It took about a day and a half for the installation to be complete, and the outcome was not just beautiful, but exactly as I had designed and imagined It. All in all, they did a great job and I would recommend them highly. Southern Turf delivered on their commitments and completed a very professional job.

We just finished doing both our front and backyard with turf and marble rock, and honestly… I wish we had done this sooner. We got multiple quotes before moving forward, but from the first few conversation with Shane, I could tell this team was different. They were straightforward, didn’t oversell anything, and really took the time to explain the materials and process. That mattered to our family. The end result speaks for itself. The turf looks clean, tight, and super natural, not that cheap, shiny stuff you sometimes see. The marble rock gives it a crisp, modern look and ties everything together perfectly. The lines are sharp, the grading is solid, and everything just feels done the right way. Even at night, the yard looks amazing. What I appreciated most was the attention to detail and the pride they took in their work. They treated our home like it was their own and left everything spotless when they finished. If you’re thinking about upgrading your yard or not needing to mow weekly and all kinds of things, this was hands down one of the best decisions we’ve made for our home. Highly recommend to folks out there. Huge thanks to Shane from Southern Turf, Co.

What customers say:
We started with a backyard that was essentially unusable--mostly dirt and dead grass--and ended up with a space we actually want to spend time in. They handled the full transformation: Texas native plants, fresh sod, irrigation, lighting, a new patio with poured concrete pavers, a pergola, and decking built around our above-ground pool. The result feels intentional, cohesive, and well suited to both the climate and how we use the space. We worked with their designers to develop the plan, and that process was smooth and collaborative. They listened, had good instincts, and were happy to iterate with us until the design felt right. From first contact to breaking ground took about three months, which felt reasonable given the scope. Once construction started, everything moved fast--the entire project was completed around two to three weeks. Most importantly, we're extremely happy with the outcome. The yard is beautiful and dramatically more usable than before. Jason and Nikk were a pleasure to work with throughout: friendly, proactive, communicative, with good taste and a strong sense for design. I'd happily recommend them to anyone looking to upgrade their outdoor space.

I recently tore out an old wooden deck and wanted to replace it with pavers. After meeting with five different companies I decided to go with Southern Love Landscape & Design. Nikkolas was very professional and knowledgeable during the initial consultation. He provided insights into the project I wouldn’t have thought about. Nikkolas’ crew arrived on time each day. It was enjoyable to watch their progress and their attention to detail in every step of the process. At the end of the project everything was cleaned up with no mess left behind. I would highly recommend Southern Love &. Landscaping. They are a great and reliable local business with the expertise to help your dream come true. I am excited to be able to use this new patio!

We had a problem with our grass in the backyard. Laura with Southern Love Landscaping visited, diagnosed our problem, and provided a solution, which involved replacing our Bermuda grass with Zoysia. We also added new plants to the beds around the house. Throughout the process, Laura was extremely professional, knowledgeable, and very prompt about returning calls and texts. She was present before, during, and after the installation. The installation crew was also outstanding. They showed up on time, did a great job installing the sod and plants, and cleaned up afterwards. They checked out our irrigation system, programmed the controller, and provided advice about watering. Nikk, the owner, also came by to check on things. We were extremely pleased with all aspects of the job.

What customers say:
Michael and his team were fantastic from consultation to end product. We needed our front lawn resodded and consulted with three different companies. All three were very knowledgeable, however, Michael's approach and guidance made us feel inclined to hire his team right away. Pricing planning was very transparent and communication was really easy (both my husband and I talked to him for different aspects like payment, grass details, flower options, tree trimming, timing, post care treatment etc). The team was at our house two days. They were very detailed and made sure things like our water sprinklers were working and properly set. We had a leak in one of our sprinklers and they communicated that to use before setting the grass. We agreed to his team fixing it (for a very fair price) before continuing with the project. The end result was lovely and exactly what ee were looking for! As a plus, Michael and team were always very kind and respectful with us and our property. We definitely recommend this company.

We had a wonderful experience with this company. We initially contacted them because we had seen what they did with my son's front yard and we loved it both my son's and our house are new builds so there wasn't much going on in the front or back yard. Michael came out and quoted us for stone landscaping, plants and an area of gravel in our back yard and more stone landscaping and a paved patio entry way at the front of the house . Michael is an excellent communicator, very knowledgeable about his trade and very keen to give you exactly what you want, he gave us great ideas about what would and wouldn't work especially in regards to plants that would survive and thrive in Texas. We quickly decided on a plan of action and his crew led by Henry were there the next week to start. Henry is great at his job he is very skillful and detail orientated. We are beyond happy with the finished result we even had someone knock on our door to ask who done the work they would like the same. Lastly Rudy came to cover the entry patio into our house with patterned pavers which look really good. We highly recommend this company they delivered what they promised on time and on budget. We will definitely use them again.

What customers say:
We recently had our backyard redone by Cutters and we couldn't be happier with the results. From the very beginning, Charlie was super quick at responding to messages. As an architect, I had some thoughts as to what I wanted to see done. The Cutters team was able to take my sketches and turn them into a reality (and better than I would have been able to picture). Throughout the experience, I felt like a partner in the project, and any time there was a small update or a change, it was handled immediately. We can't wait to see how all of the plants and trees grow in over time. This project truly transformed our backyard, and we like to sit back there and admire with the dogs.

ETA: This has gone from bad to worse. The "remedies" have been slow to come and today I was told that the cost was a "low price" which is why stump grinding or any other actual removal of the tree/bushes is not really included, despite the contract description and my request being "removal" of these items. Their rework has cost me hundreds in lost material (sod plugs) and time. I would absolutely suggest anyone to avoid Cutters. I can't even get corrective actions or warranty work done in a timely manner without curt replies. I paid over $24,000 for this project- not a "low price" despite any particular line item. I wish I could say we had the same positive experience as so many others here, but unfortunately we did not. The initial estimating was all fine but it broke down from there. Just some of the issues: -I emailed to ask about the project start and good thing I did because the answer, late that night, was "tomorrow". I asked what they would be doing first, so we could be prepared, and then it turned out what I was told was very different from what actually occurred. Moreover, that first day, the two workers spent most of their time sitting around in our yard or their vehicles, not working, I believe because they lacked proper equipment and direction. For example, one task was removing a small tree an I observed them hacking at it with a digging bar. When I reached out to my contacts (Charlie and Felipe) I was told Charlie was out of town until the end of the week. So, we had no oversight onsite. -Communication breakdowns continued with things like getting questioned about specs that we had gone over in the pre project walk through but not getting questions about other critical decisions. -Quality issues abound. We are left with composite decking with uneven cuts, poorly constructed joints, and inappropriate spacing. It's also not the dimensions/height expected. The metal that was installed under our shed was left with gaps where pieces meet. The garden beds were overfilled with dense soil. The stump from the small tree is still protruding in our yard. -Irrigation issues. We asked for drip irrigation around the house. Purportedly a licensed irrigator installed this however it is located within 2 inches of the house, and on top of or just below the soil line, none of which is standard and all of which has to be redone to prevent foundation damage. Further, the drip irrigation in our garden beds is connected to the sprinklers that irrigate our rear lawn, so to water the garden we have to water the entire yard; this is a terrible "shortcut" they took to avoid adding or splitting a zone. -Timeline: estimate for the project was one week. It took over three weeks with multiple "false" end dates given and rescheduled. -Many instances we had to observe/inspect the work and intervene by contacting Charlie and Felipe to address things that were being done incorrectly, contrary to what was agreed, or just not at all. For instance, the two sprinkler heads under the deck were not capped and had we not pointed it out, they would have been left that way under the new deck. Some things were just never remedied, like the deck hangers we asked for. A warped board was installed on our privacy wall and we had to ask for it be replaced and for the design to be improved to prevent immediate warping of other boards. All work was basically completed by the same two workers (except some of the irrigation work), which left us wondering about capabilities and project resource planning. These workers were also, as I understand from the contract, subcontractors and not Cutters employees. Their personal vehicle also left oil stains in our driveway. In total, we spent a hefty sum for what we believed would be a high quality job from an experienced provider. Instead, we were left with low quality outputs that took longer than promised and cost more than other similar vendors. We'll now have to spend time and money remedying certain things. We would not recommend Cutters. All posted photos are the final products we are left with...

Charlie and his team did a great job building a pad for our stock tank pool on a slope in our yard. They were able to start ahead of schedule, finished everything in one day, and the quality of the work was excellent. Everyone was professional, friendly, and easy to work with. We're very happy with the results and would highly recommend them!

We cannot say enough good things about Cutters Landscaping. They just completed our outdoor pergola and the entire experience was outstanding from start to finish. The pre-project walkthrough gave us so much confidence — they truly understood our vision. The initial renderings were exciting, and once we kicked things off, the process moved smoothly and efficiently. The staff and crew were professional, friendly, and clearly took real pride in their work. And the final result? Honestly, it blew us away. My wife and I are absolutely thrilled with this new space and cannot wait to enjoy it with our family and friends all season long. If you're looking for a landscaping company that delivers on every promise — Cutters Landscaping is it. Highest recommendation, without hesitation.

Cutters has turned another chaotic backyard into a beautiful space. We handed them a lofty project to clear out a lot of debris, pavers and grade a very overgrown and poorly maintained yard and not only did they knock it out quickly but they blew away expectations and for a price that was worth every penny. I have used them for multiple projects now and always had a great experience.

We are thrilled with our new lawn! Cobos addressed all of our concerns about erosion & pooling water. His team also removed all of the large rocks in our yard so we could have grass across the entire yard (no bald spots!). His team was courteous and professional. They took good care of our sprinkler system and even cleaned our driveway before leaving. Ben was prompt with his quote and quick to start work when we were ready. His quote was also very competitive. I highly recommend him for your next landscaping project.

Just wow! On time, excellent price, and did above and beyond what I thought I paid for so…keeper. Cut grass with a supercool lawn mower, obliterated weeds, dissolved and treated ant piles!! Then blew out all the scraps from the patio and rocks. My yard is once again a paradise. Thank you!! Ps. The guy was super nice and explained what else I needed to keep my grass nice a walkable. See the before and after!
Jenny S Hill, 4 months ago
Found Izzy after three failed attempts at growing grass or plants in extreme shade. He convinced me he could make me a believer. His plants exceeded my expectations and are happy and thriving. I was stunned how large and beautiful the plant selection was and the pricing was very fair. I will definitely be working with him again.
Angie Horejsi, 4 months ago
Izzy saved my party! I needed to cut the grass within 1.5 days of my party beginning, and he was willing to do so within the same day of me calling. He was just intending to give me a quote until he sensed the desperation of my yard description and chose to cut it during the "quote" visit. I just wanted the grass cut and he promptly trimmed the whole yard in 10 minutes. A great job!

We had a very good experience with Red Agave performing Xeriscape for our lawn. We had no idea what steps to take and we were well guided by Jensen and his team. When the project was completed in latte February 2026 we were really pleased. As the plants mature and we see what the project will become we are overwhelmed with the plan Red Agave implemented and the comments from neighbors. I look forward to working with them on a future project.
Raymond Fulton, 3 months ago
Red Agave far exceeded my expectations and created a backyard my family, I, and our guests love to be in. I hired them to upgrade my backyard which started as a dirt lot. I had some general ideas for what I wanted. From the first design consultation, I knew they were the company to go with. Jenson's designs were far more creative than other companies I had consulted. Not only was the design interesting from the start, but Jenson kept working with me to iterate and improve on the elements. I mentioned that I maybe wanted a fire pit, and he found a way to create an incredible firepit centerpiece with a "floating" boulder. To complement that, he also made seating with a similar floating ascetic. Nothing was cookie-cutter; everything looks completely unlike anything I've seen from other companies. Not only was the final product great but the crew was a pleasure to work with as well. They all clearly have a passion for what they do and it shows in their work. I would absolutely hire them again.
Chris McNair, 5 months ago
We had the best experience with Red Agave! Zach & Jensen were great to work with. Their communication was excellent and they listened to our vision. Their work not only enhanced the aesthetic of our backyard but also increased the value and the use of our property! The team was always respectful of our home and of us and they were troopers in the August heat. Highly recommend Red Agave! Thanks yall, we love it.

Austin Creative Landscape transformed my front and back yards into beautiful and functional spaces. I reached out to them original to help with my backyard because most of the grass was dead and gone so it would just become muddy when it rained. Abey came out and walked around with us and bounced ideas on how the yard could be improved. I appreciated that Abey would suggest alternatives that would still look great but would also be less expensive. When the work actually started, the crew was very friendly and worked really hard starting early in the morning every day. Throughout the work process, Abey would let me know if they had any new suggestions or ideas that we would like better, and I appreciated that they kept looking out for improvements to the design. They finished the work in 5 days and cleaned up the site really well. Over the weekend after the work was complete, we had really heavy rain that washed away some of the mulch in the flower bed that was added by the utilities. I asked Abey if they could add a steel border to the front of the flower bed, but I really loved the idea that they pitched to add river rock for drainage and add a small stone wall to tie it in with the house. I really love the final result of the work done by Austin Creative Landscaping, and I would definitely reach out to them in the future if I have any more landscaping work that I would like to do.

We absolutely loved working with Abey and his team at Austin Creative Landscaping. From the very beginning, Abey had great ideas and a clear vision for our space. We had some significant drainage and erosion issues, and they came up with a solution that not only fixed those problems but also transformed our yard into a beautiful outdoor living space. The team was professional, friendly, talented, and always kept the job site clean. They can do it all -- masonry, welding, irrigation, drainage, planting, etc. They worked efficiently and delivered an amazing result. We couldn't be happier with how everything turned out, and we're looking forward to making lots of memories with our kids for years to come. We highly recommend Abey and Austin Creative Landscaping. We are already planning our next project for them! :)
Amie Falcon, a month ago
We couldn't be happier with the work Austin Creative Landscaping did on our front yard. We first noticed a neighbor’s stunning landscaping down the road, and after hearing about their great experience working with Abey, we decided to book a consultation. Abey is truly great to work with. My wife and I started the process with only a very vague idea of what we wanted, but Abey was incredibly patient, guiding us through both the design and implementation phases. He answered every single one of our questions and helped us figure out exactly what would work best for our specific space. The end result is absolutely amazing and our yard has been completely transformed. Due to the scope of the project, we decided to focus on only the front yard for now. But when we are ready to work on the backyard, we will definitely be working with Abey and Austin Creative Landscaping again!

How do you choose a landscaper in Austin?
Picking a landscaper in Austin is about more than price or pretty photos. You want someone who shows up, listens, and has a track record with the soil you actually have. Ask if they do a site visit before quoting, and what they know about building on limestone or clay. If you want a patio, ask how they handle drainage and movement. For planting, see if they talk about native or adapted options and deer resistance. If they only mention St. Augustine and crepe myrtles, keep looking.
| Factor | What to Look For |
|---|---|
| Local Experience | Knows Austin soils, climate, and plants |
| Communication | Shows up, follows up, explains process |
| Design Approach | Offers site visit, custom plan, not just templates |
| Construction Know-How | Talks about drainage, soil prep, hardscape settling |
| Plant Knowledge | Suggests natives, drought/deer resistant picks |
| References/Portfolio | Can show past jobs in your part of town |
Frequently asked questions
How much does landscaping cost in Austin?
Basic yard cleanups or small planting jobs can start around $500 to $1,500. Full landscape installations, patios, or major hardscaping often run $10,000 to $50,000 or more, depending on the size, materials, and complexity. Always get a written estimate after a site visit.
What are the best plants for Austin yards?
Stick with natives and well-adapted choices like Texas sage, lantana, Mexican feather grass, and red yucca. For shade, try cedar elm or live oak. Avoid thirsty turf and anything deer love unless you want to replant every spring.
Do I need a permit for landscaping in Austin?
You usually do not need a permit for basic planting or mulching. Permits are required for major work like patios, decks, retaining walls over four feet, or anything that changes drainage. Always check city rules before starting.
How do I keep my new plants alive through Austin summers?
Water deeply but infrequently, using drip irrigation or soaker hoses set on a timer. Mulch two to three inches deep to hold moisture. Plant in fall or early spring, and expect to hand-water new installs twice a week during the first summer.
